1965 Mustang Brakes

Brakes

Your 1965 Mustang’s brakes might have been state-of-the-art when they rolled off the lot, but brake technology has come a long way since 1965. Keeping your Mustang’s brakes in excellent condition is one of the best decisions you can make for your car’s safety and for your own, and if you’re willing to put in just a little extra work, the reward is a much improved driving experience. At CJ Pony Parts, we’ve got a huge selection of 1965 Mustang brake parts and brake hydraulics. It doesn’t matter if you just want to get the most from the factory drums, or give your pony a set of high-powered four-wheel discs, you’ll find the parts you need.

1965 Brakes

Replacement Drums and Power-Assisted Discs

Just because your 1965 Mustang’s brakes are drums and not discs doesn’t mean they need to suffer from the issues that drum brakes had in 1965. Drum brakes are still used today on many modern applications, and at CJ Pony Parts, we stock brand-new OEM-replacement drums by Raybestos and Ford Racing. If you want to maintain a stock feel from your Mustang, but need a component you can have confidence in, consider making the change to a set of these replacement drums.

One popular upgrade to the 1965 Mustang’s brakes that many owners perform is the addition of a dual bowl brake master cylinder. This is a great upgrade for two reasons. First, a master cylinder separates your front and rear braking systems so that if one goes out, the other will still work. This is the reason that modern cars all use a dual bowl configuration — the redundancy offers a dramatic increase in safety. Secondly, you’ll experience more overall power from your brakes, and who doesn’t like that?

Thinking about mounting up a set of power-assisted disc brakes? CJ Pony Parts has everything you’ll need to do it. Check out the Master Power front disc brake conversion kit for an example of just how good your brakes can be. This kit includes spindles and everything else necessary to upgrade your 1965 Mustang’s brakes to something comparable to the brakes used on cars that are rolling off the production line today. The power-assisted 11” discs included with the Master Power kit are compatible with wheels from 15” up, so you can maintain a vintage look and still stop with confidence.
