Rust is one of the most common issues we face when restoring older cars. Since fuel tanks on older cars are typically made of unpainted metal, they often fall victim to corrosion. To make your life easy, CJ Pony Parts stocks several direct replacement options for the 1965 Mustang fuel tank. With options available in steel or stainless steel, each fuel tank includes all necessary mounting hardware, gaskets and drain plugs. In addition to the basic tank unit, we also carry a great selection of small parts like sending units and fuel filler pipes, and premium and oversized tanks for upgraded applications.

If your first build is just getting underway, but your car’s factory fuel tank is leaking or rusted out, CJ Pony Parts offers an affordable reproduction 1965 Mustang fuel tank that will get the job done and leave you with some coin to spend on the rest of the build. The premium model is available for only a few dollars more, and has been pressure tested to over twice the level of reproduction 1965 Mustang fuel tanks. If you plan to use your Mustang on long trips, we suggest that you take a look at our 22-gallon fuel tank conversion kit. Compared to the direct replacement 1965 Mustang fuel tank, this kit allows you to carry over 40% more fuel, and if you spend a lot of time on the open road it could be the difference between reaching your destination and having to call a tow. Each kit contains a larger fuel tank based on the design from the 1970 Mustang, a custom fuel filler pump and sender unit and all the necessary mounting hardware.

For racing applications and cars in the realm of 600+ horsepower, take a look at the Aeromotive EFI 1965 Mustang fuel tank. This purpose-build beauty comes with a high volume fuel pump already installed and ready to match up with your car’s carburetor or fuel injection system. It’s capable of handling up to 1000hp on a carbureted car or 850hp using fuel injection, but if you’re using forced induction take note that these numbers will be slightly lower.

If you’re just making repairs to your existing fuel tank, check out our supply of small parts that will make the job a fast and easy one. Nobody likes driving around without an accurate measurement of the fuel in their car, so we’ve got a number of replacement brass and plastic sender units in 5/16” as well as 3/8” sizes.
