1967 Mustang Supercharger
The 289 V8 small block debuted back in 1962 in the Ford Fairlane. The lightweight motor weighed in at only 450 pounds and first appeared in the Mustang in 1964. During its first year in the Mustang, this motor was tuned to deliver 210 horsepower. In just a few short years, this engine was retuned and re-worked to deliver more power. The 1967 Mustang was available with either a 2-barrel carburetor or 4-barrel carburetor. Power output on the 289 2V was rated at 200 horsepower. Equipped with two extra venturi barrels on the carb, 289 4v managed to deliver 225 horsepower. Yet Ford knew drivers wanted even more, so they offered a high performance 289 4V, also known as the Hi-Po engine. The Hi-Po version boasted a whopping 271 total horsepower.

1967 Supercharger KitsIt seems even at the early stages of Mustang history, horsepower was the name of the game. If you’re looking to add more horsepower to your 1967 Mustang, consider installing a supercharger.
Supercharge Your 1967 Mustang for Super Horsepower GainsOne of the reasons the 4-barrel has more power than the 2-barrel is because the engine can effectively pull in more oxygen. The additional oxygen concentration means combustion can occur more efficiently and results in increased horsepower. A supercharger works in very similar fashion.
