1982 Rear Axle

Strengthen Your Mustang with New Rear Axles

It has been said that a car’s tires are the most important component, because they are the only part of the car that touches asphalt. That may be, but if your Mustang’s rear axle isn’t functioning as it should, all the tire in the world won’t do you much good.

We all know how crucial traction is for the spirited driving the Mustang was built to perform. Axle wobble, wheel hop and driveline slop are all signs that it might be time to check on your 1982 Mustang’s rear end. Transferring power from your car’s engine to its wheels is a complex process, and we carry all of the parts that go into that process, such as:

• Rear Axle Kits: When you’re ready to pull out all the stops and give your ride the deluxe treatment, allow the experts at CJ Pony Parts to direct you to our four-spline 1982 Mustang rear axle replacement kit. It features an 8.8” Yukon Dura Grip positraction differential that can handle all the punishment you can dish out. For high-horsepower applications that regularly see hard use, this one is a no-brainer.
• Replacement Differentials: At the heart of your 1982 Mustang’s rear end is the differential, and there are several different types. Typical open differentials only send power to one wheel, whereas limited-slip differentials are able to transfer power to both rear wheels with more traction. Our inventory includes two great differentials from Ford Racing. The Traction-Lok unit that comes standard on the SN-95 Mustang Cobra is a mechanical-type limited slip differential that can be fitted to your 1982 Mustang. Also available is the Ford Racing Torsen differential, which is pilfered from the groundbreaking new Boss 302. Take note that you may need to modify your car’s rear end to accept these differential upgrades.
• Ring and Pinion Mounting Kits: If the drive gear in your Mustang is worn, replace it with a ring and pinion mounting kit from CJ Pony Parts. These kits include a full compliment of factory reproduction bearings, seals, gaskets, and everything else you need to get your six-cylinder Pony rolling again. Select an aftermarket ring and pinion from Ford Racing to change the gear ratio in your car for better acceleration or increased top speed.
