Superchargers & Nitrous Oxide Kits

The Fox-Body-era Mustang’s enduring popularity is due in large part to how easy it is to customize. Though notable in its own right, the third generation Mustang’s lineup of I4, V6 and V8 engines makes an even more impressive base for anyone willing to put in the time and money to properly tune them. One way of doing this is with the addition of a supercharger or nitrous kit. At CJ Pony Parts, our selection of superchargers, turbos and nitrous systems is just one of the ways we’re helping drivers make the most of their ‘Stangs. From the exterior to the engine, we’ve got everything you need for your 1987 Mustang.

1987 Superchargers & Nitrous Oxide Kits

Superchargers: How They Work

Superchargers use forced-air induction to increase the amount of oxygen in your engine’s combustion changer. Similar to how exhaust headers push waste gases out faster, superchargers expedite the combustion process by forcing more air in. Installing a supercharger on your 1987 Mustang is not a difficult process, though the kit itself can be quite expensive.

Our 1987 Mustang supercharger kits start at around $2,600 and increase in price depending on the type of engine, the manufacturer, and whether or not they include accessories such as an aftercooler. Kits typically include everything you need to complete the installation at home, which can be done in a well-equipped garage in between 4-6 hours.

What Is a Nitrous System?

Nitrous kits are a more affordable alternative to superchargers. Nitrous oxide (N2O), as the name implies, contains oxygen. A nitrous kit shoots a spray of liquid N2O into the combustion chamber on demand, forcing more oxygen into the mix in the same way a supercharger does. Whereas a supercharger works continually, a nitrous system only provides extra performance in short bursts. Another drawback is that the nitrous itself needs to be replaced when it runs out. Replacement N2O isn’t prohibitively expensive, though it is another maintenance item that must be tended to on a regular basis.

At CJ Pony Parts, we carry a large selection of 1987 Mustang nitrous kits by brands such as ZEX, Edelbrock and more. If you’re considering upgrading your ride’s engine, contact a sales representative for help choosing the system that’s best for your budget and needs.
