Expectations have been high since Ford announced the development of a sixth generation Mustang in time for the brand's 50th anniversary. So far, details have been scarce about what's in store for the original muscle car, and pony car fans have been anxious for information. Though it won't be released until next April at the earliest, we've gotten an exclusive look at the 2015 Mustang Interior. While anything can change between now and then, here's a brief rundown on what to expect.
The obvious place to start when discussing the 2015 Mustang interior is the Evos concept, from which the new pony car is said to take its design cues. Interior design features of the Evos included a driver-oriented instrument panel and a more 'cockpit-like' feel. In the photos we've seen, the 2015 Mustang interior retains traces of this concept, but with a uniquely Mustang look that hearkens back to the muscles cars of the 60s and 70s, at least in spirit.
Mustang Gets MyFord Touch
The 2015 will be the first Mustang to feature the MyFord Touch system. While initial reviews of MyFord Touch have been lukewarm, the platform was recently upgraded, eliminating many of the bugs present in earlier releases. With MyFord Touch, drivers will be able to integrate their mobile phone, media player or PDA using a built-in WiFi hotspot. It's said that the dash will also feature redundant button and switch controls for drivers who prefer them over their virtual counterparts.
A Roomier Interior for 2015
Interior space may not be the most compelling reason to buy a Mustang, but as a consequence of one of the 2015's most hyped features - the long-awaited introduction of an independent rear suspension - look for the new model to feature a roomier back seat and cargo area. Other interior features include a retro-inspired steering wheel and a set of large tubular gauges in the instrument panel, both of which will be carried over from the current model year.
