I just can not picture how this bar will work. I to have the Optima Battery and I already have the BTCB hold down or is it the BTC3K? Anyway help an old man and give me a picture or a better explanation will yeah.
This mounts under your existing 64-66 mustang battery tray using the provided bolt, the bar mounts with one square hole facing the radiator support and the other faces toward the rear of the car, than you place the rods from BTC3K in the square holes and the hold down on top of the battery, sorry we don't have any pics of it installed.

When the bolt is installed thru the tray into the bar, the bolt protrudes 3/8" above the bar causing the battery to sit unevenly. Not a graceful implementation. Shouldn't the bolt be shorter and if so, can CJ send me one.
You could trim the bolt down or use some washers under the head of the bolt to get the proper fit.

what else is needed to use this piece I have an optima battery do I also need the battery hold down kit that fits the 67-70. Just don't want to get the wrong things for the vehicle. Or what kit will I need to use with my optima battery in my 65 Mustang.
You will need BTC3K 67-70 battery hold down kit with BTCB, it will work with an optima battery.

How does this attach to the battery tray? Do you have and instructions or photo's showing it secured to the tray?
There is a hole just left of center on the battery tray, on the long side of the tray closest to the engine. Slide the bar under the battery tray and line up the holes. Slide the included bolt through the tray and it threads into the bar. Very simple. You'll either need to cut the bolt or drill through the panel under the tray. The bar straddles the battery tray diagonally. I installed one to accommodate an Optima battery and it works perfect.
