Even though you can tell there is a 5.0L V8 under the hood, the factory exhaust leaves something to be desired for your average muscle car enthusiast. Manufactured entirely out of T-304 Stainless Steel, this 2-1/2" cat-back exhaust system will give you that perfect muscle car sound. This Borla Cat-Back exhaust system utilizes an integral X-pipe that will bolt directly up to your factory catalytic converters, keeping your Mustang 100% emission compliant. Borla Cat-Back Exhaust System 2-1/2" S-Type Stainless Steel With 4" Polished Tips GT 2015-2017 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2398.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proper sound Not annoying loud but loud enough to get a cops attention. Zero drone, lots of pops and gargling sound when down shifting. Only gets loud when taking off at the light, but normal driving at low rpm it's a light rumble that you can still enjoy your radio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After it settles in, it is perfect I put on my Borla S-type... Which for the convertible DOES require one more step than the video install shows, which proved to be significantly more difficult. You must remove the convertible sub-frame, which has lock-tight on the bolts, which makes them possibly very hard to re-secure. But aside from install woes, it was a bit loud for the first ~200 miles, and a bit tinny, but once it settled in, this exhaust is great. Rather mild compared to some of the systems out there, but for me, that was what I was looking for. Sounds like American Muscle, but not enough so that the police will be looking for the source of the noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Sound! Great exhaust easy install. I wanted an exhaust that was loud but not insane loud. This exhaust gets loud after 3000 rpm and really loud after 4000 and really really loud after 5000. At normal driving 2000-3000 rpm it's 100% better than stock. It's not annoying and has a nice rumble. This exhaust makes it very easy to control the sound. It's definitely a head turner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds amazing! The install took about an hour and it sounds great! I am beyond thrilled with this purchase. I've only had it on my car for a few days and I've already received several compliments on how great it sounds. I find myself running the rpms a little higher before I shift just to hear it! Big smile!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Sound! I just put the Borla S-type cat back exhaust on my 2015 GT Convertible and the sound is awesome! It's very a very aggressive sound when on the gas and no drone on the highway. Every time I nail the gas it brings a smile to my face. BTW - This exhaust fits the convertible but you need to remove the bracing for the convertible to remove the mufflers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a Sound! Self installed these exhausts. The most difficult part was removing the stock exhausts by my self. The rest was pretty easy. And oh what a sound! I love the way they make my pony roar. Loud enough to get your attention (and everyone around you), but not obnoxiously loud. Minimal to no drone at cruising highway speeds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job! Had my Performance shop guy install these plus an Airaid Cold Air Intake. Let me tell you..., great sound, great response when accelerating, turns heads, nice rumble, have to fight my wife just to drive my 50th anniversary 2015 GT! My guy says I'm probably getting a 5% gain in HP. I was happy with 2 or 3%. So from 435 to about 456. I'm thinking closer to a Boss at 444hp. But all that aside. It's upto debate unless you get on a dyno. I can hear and feel the difference. I'll let you know about gas Milage soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will never have any other exhaust again! If you're looking for a nice deep low, the. Something a bit louder when you take off, this is a great exhaust for you. It's worth every penny. The video online didn't do it justice. It sounds way better in person. I'm glad I trusted my gut and bought these things.

Product Questions

I have a 2016 Mustang GT 5.0 Premium automatic. My question is does the Borla S and ATAK Sound the same as it does on a 6 speed? Leaning toward the S Type but not sure if results would be the same as on the video.

Asked by: Jake2016

will the this system be to loud with a convertible top down

Asked by: chuck5218
In our opinion, the S-Type cat-back sounds incredible. Whether you have the top down or the windows open, the volume is very controllable. But what may not seem loud to us, may seem loud to you.

I purchased this exhaust a couple of months ago and  Im not really digging the raspiness of the X pipe. Is their an option for me to install an H pipe? If so do you have a part number? Thanks

Asked by: 2016GT
Unfortunately, No. The H-Pipes that we offer would not be a direct fit and would require some fabrication in order to make them fit properly.

Will the Borla S Type fit a UK spec RHD GT 5.0

Asked by: mikey234
Unfortunately I cannot accurately answer your question. Without the vendor supplying any information regarding fitment for non-US Spec cars and CJ's not having a car to test parts on, we cannot confirm this part working on your vehicle at this time.

Borla Cat-Back Exhaust System 2-1/2" S-Type Stainless Steel With 4" Polished Tips GT 2015-2017 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: Regular viewers of our YouTube channel probably knows we've installed a lot of different exhaust systems on my 2015 Mustang GT recently. We want to make sure that as a customer you can hear every possible option before you decide what exhaust you want to go with. I'm not going to lie. It works for me as well because that way I can hear the different systems, and it's not what I want to keep on my personal car. So far I have the 4 racing tour, which I'm a fan of, but a couple of the systems we installed I've definitely liked. One I've really been looking forward to though is the Borla S-Type. I've run Borla S-types on previous cars and always loved the tone of them. Today I'm going to install their Cat-Back on my 2015 Mustang GT.

Borla is made completely of high-quality T-304 stainless steel. It starts with a true x-pipe to replace your heavy resonator then goes for 2 1/2 inch Mandrel bend piping, through the Borla S-Type stainless steel mufflers, ending inside of their 4-inch polished double roll tips. We'll start off by giving you some stock sound clips then we get to install on our Borla.

For this installation we need a lift or a jack and jack stands, 3/8 ratchet, 13 mm shallow socket, 15 mm socket, 8 mm allen key, 6 inch extension, and a flat blade screwdriver.

What I've been showing you many times in the past, removal of the stock system is actually quite easy, but do suggest a second sets of hands to make it easier. First you want to do, remove the two bolts from the two rib brackets. Don't worry about removing the bolts. There's actually a little hook so they're not going to fall off. Now move forward and loosen the clamps that hold the resonator to the front pipes. I want to bend this tab up. There's a little stub that will stop it. They you can slide the clamp down. Now you can pop these little hangers off here. Now the weight's going to go forward, and you shimmy the system forward off the read clamps. We'll remove these clamps off the factory pipes.

First, we're going to install this factory clamps back on the factory pipes. Start by putting the Borla x-pipe into the stock clamp, I'm going to center the x-pipe and snug up these clamps. Don't tighten them all the way yet. You'll have to adjust them later.

Once the x-pipe's in place we'll move onto the intermediate pipes. Put a clamp on the front here and factory hanger on the back. Put it up into place. Same thing with the clamp here, just snug it up so you can still move it. Now, same thing with the muffler, install the clamp first, put it up on the factory hanger, tighten the clamp, now push it up where we want it. Check the fitting on the back and then tighten it down. Then repeat the process on the other side.

Once you're happy with the fit, we can tighten down the x-pipe clamps next to the factory piping. The last step, the factory hanger bolts. Your installation is finished. Now we'll see how it sounds with a Borla S-Type. The S-Type has a very signature sound. It has that aggressive raspiness. I know a lot of people were worried it was going to sound a lot like the Ford racing because Borla makes them. The S-Type has a completely unique tone.

I always liked the Borla S-Type on my previous Mustang. Absolutely love it on the 2015 as well. Like all Borla stuff, the fit and finish is top-notch and the sound is nice and aggressive yet really quiet when you cruise on the highway which is exactly what I was looking for. This system, I don't see me taking it off my car any time soon. Installation's straight forward. It's going to take you around an hour, so you'll be back on the road in no time.
