Why is it necessary to cut just before the weld?
I noticed in the description it says 4½" and 4" tips, which ones come with the exhaust or is there a choice between the two?

The Borla system is stainless steel and features two and a half inch piping that's all mandrel bent, features a single inlet and outlet muffler then exits into to a pair of four and half inch polished stainless steel rolled tips. This system is a touring system, so it should have a nice deep tone without being overly aggressive.
We're pretty sure you already know what the stock system sounds like, but for comparison sake, we're going to do a before and after, and we'll start with the factory exhaust. We admit it doesn't sound bad, but it definitely doesn't scream performance. So, let's get that out of the way and get our Borla exhaust system installed.
For this installation, we'll need jack and jack stands or lift, sawzall, 3/8 ratchet, 10mm socket, 15mm deep socket, 17mm socket, swivel, 15mm wrench, exhaust donut removal tool and safety glasses.
We've done a few of these installs already, so we're not going to bore you with the details of how to remove your stock exhaust system, it's pretty simple. Remove these two nuts up here, remove this brace, you want to cut it right here behind the well and then you slide everything off the hangers and put it aside.
I'm going to carefully remove this exhaust gasket and we're going to reuse it with our new system. We're going to start with over the axle pipe, you want to put it in straight up and then you're going to turn it into place once you get it up in there. This is going to be a tight fit, it's usually the hardest pipe to install. Slide it in the rear hanger and then we're going to slide into the front hanger.
We're going to install a clamp over the axle pipe first and then we'll install the mid-pipe. Put the gasket into place and then we'll install our new hardware. Install the clamp onto the muffler and then put the muffler on the car. Just get it connected to the over the axle pipe, we'll put it on the hangers. We'll get it centered in our bumper and we'll go back and tighten everything down. The last step is to reinstall the factory brace. The installation is finished.
The Borla looks good so now, let's see how it sounds. Sounds good and has a nice aftermarket tone, but not overly aggressive. You see on the road, the exhaust system sounds pretty good, it's loud and you can tell it's aftermarket but it's not overwhelming in the cabin. We're in the sixth gear now, cruising at highway speeds, you barely even notice it. A real slight low tone to it, not intrusive at all, barely even louder than stock. Soon as you downshift and get on it though, you can definitely hear that aftermarket exhaust kick up. Borla system overall sounds pretty good, I'd say not overly aggressive but definitely aggressive enough to give you a nice performance tone.
Our Borla system looks great, it sounds great and we know it's a lot lighter than the factory exhaust system. For our next video, we'll get back on the dyno and we'll see what kind of horsepower gains it's worth. Installation should take you around an hour and you'll be back on the road in no time.
