Carpet Underlayment Kit 4-Piece 1965-1973 is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Packaging of product could be better. Product arrived as described, but it was rather difficult to unwrap from it's curled up state without damage. Also the packing could be a bit more solid as it tends to get VERY brittle in the cold and the shipper dropped the box (probably multiple times as it traveled) and resulted in broken edges up and down the underlayment. CJ was awesome in their response to the damage though. Shipped me another at no cost and a gift card for the trouble. Excellent vendor who stands by the products they sell!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK Would have been better off buying tar paper roof rolling than this excuse for styled underlayment. About a 1/3 of the original thickness with no jute/fibre membrane and not at all pre cut for a 1973 mustang. cj can and should do better. Tears easily and doesn't fit without multiple cuts and wasted trim.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy and work well These are very heavy. I set them out in the sun before installing and they molded right to the contours of the floor. Had to cut holes for the seat belts in the front, but overall happy with these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Messy Material The mats come rolled in a box. Whe you take them out, the pads will crack and if you live in a hot area, the material will somehow melt. Not to mention the bad tar smell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oem style Product is like oem. Set in warm sun if you can before working with materials. Can use heat gun for best lay down.

Product Questions

Putting new ACC carpet in my 69 mach1.My underlayment has shiny /rubber side and other side is jute. Does the jute side go up or does the shiny rubber go up. Seems to fit better with the jute side down. Not sure which should go up. Have installed Dynama

Asked by: JRW69
The front underlayment is side specific, the right side is square cut at the toe board area where the left side has a cut out for the dimmer switch. Once you get the front figured out you will be able to see which side is up.

Should I cover the "entire" floor with another underlayment to keep our the most noise and sound. . . .. i e make my own fit

Asked by: DavidL
That all depends how serious you want to get with it. This covers all of the key points and will work great by itself. But you could always pair this with another option for more sound deadening.

Does it have adhesive or do I use a glue spray

Asked by: DavidL
It has a slightly adhesive backing that will keep it in place while you install your carpet. Check out the video above.

Is this as good as boom mat

Asked by: dirty
It's different, not better or worse. In fact, you could use both hand-in-hand to get maximum quietness in your Mustang.

Carpet Underlayment Kit 4-Piece 1965-1973 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: We’re here with an original style underlayment kit for your 1964 through 1973 Mustang. This underlayment kit is designed for '64 through '68 Mustangs, but will fit all '64 through '73’s. It's going to install in the floor of your Mustang before your carpet to deaden the outside noise. When installing underlayment into your Mustang, you want the shiny side to go down. You can actually pull the shiny backing off and it's got a slightly adhesive side here, but that's the side that faces down when installing.

We put the underlayment kit down on this floor to give you an idea roughly where the four pieces are going to fit. You'll have one front piece for your floor and seat platform, a set for the rear floor area, another piece for the rear seat area, and the last piece you're going to install on the top of your gas tank in the trunk.
