is this going to put extra wear on some gear box components? like ahmmm syncros or may be my stock rubber bushings
Can the Steeda trans Bushings and Shifter Base bushings be used with the Cobb Shift plate or do I have to get the Steeda shift plate?
Can you add this with the short throw shifter?
Will this work with the Steeda transmission cable bushings and shifter base bushings?
Is this a cheaper option than purchasing a short throw shifter? And if so does this do the same thing a short throw would do?

This is the Cobb adjustable shift plate. Instead of installing of the shifter itself, this plate's going to install at the linkage on the shift plate under the hood. Depending on how you install, this is going to shorten your throws between 30 and 40%. Cobb supplies the parts themselves; all your hardware for installation, lock tight, and has detailed instructions for all their parts available on their website.
For this installation, you'll need a 3/8 ratchet, 10 inch extension, 8 millimeter socket, marker, 10 millimeter wrench, panel removal tool, hammer, and tape. All their tools necessary, as well as lock tight, are provided by Cobb.
The factory shift plate is basically located straight down below, here. To be able to access it, we're going to have to pull off our air box, meter, and the tube combine off our cold air kit.
The air box lid is held on by four screws that actually stay attached to the lid when removed. Now, remove the filter. We're going to remove this upper clamp from our tube, here. That way, we can remove the air box, the meter, and this hose together. You want to disconnect the wiring going to your sensor. We can lift up on the box.
This is the stock shift plate located here and where we're going to be installing our Cobb adjustable plate. We're going to start by removing the shift linkage. You'll need a trim tool or a small screwdriver to pop this right off. We're going to be removing the plate from the transmission. You'll want to mark this right here to make sure it goes on the same place. Grab a permanent marker, just make some lines so you know you're putting in on right where it came off.
The shift plate is held on to this by a roll pin that goes through this piece right here. You'll want to use a supply bolt, put it in the front, there. Then, lightly tap it out with a hammer. To make sure I don't lose a roll pin down inside the transmission, we'll put up a small piece of tape on the backside, here, hammer it on to the tape so we don't lose it.
Now, we can remove our factory shift plate. We'll install the Cobb shift plate to our factory shift plate. It sits on it like that. That, there, goes on the backside. Use a dab of the supplied lock tight on the bolts and we'll tighten the down using the supplied wrench.
Here are your two options for shortening your throws either 30 or 40%: if you just want 30, use the one closer to the factory hole, if you're looking for 40, you can go to the further hole here. In our case, we want the shorter throw we can get, so we're going to go with the 40. We're going to put the supplied washer on the stud, then thread it in.
The last step in modifying the shift plate is to put a set screw right in here. Again, a couple dabs of lock tight. Use the supplied wrench and we'll tighten that down.Last step before installation is we'll put the roll pin in here, just get it started, make it easier to reinstall on the car. Now, our modified shift plate is ready for re-installation. We're going to put this back down into place, line it up with the marks that we made. With this lined up, we can tap the roll pin back in. To reconnect this shift linkage, bring it over the ball stud and press down. There we go. We're ready to reinstall our air box.
You get to reconnect your mass air meter. Now, our installation's finished.
That is way shorter. The first time you make a shift, you can tell. It feels about half the distance of the stock shifter. I know it's not quite that big of a difference, but it really feels it when you're driving. The shifter might be a hair firmer, as well, which some people take as a negative and me, I'd rather have a shifter have a little more of a solid feel to it.
Some of you have asked about the Flow Master sound and highway speeds. I'm doing 65 on the highway. I'd say there's slight drone to it, but overall, you don't really hear it. Now, as soon as you down shift, then you'll really hear it. Normal cruising, it's really not bad.
The Cobb adjustable shift plate worked exactly as advertised. The throws are noticeably shorter and even though Cobb warned us that the shifting might be a little firmer, you barely notice any difference at all. Installation's pretty easy, as well. It should only take you about 45 minutes. It's going to back on the road in no time.
