Export Brace Black Premium Quality 1965-1970 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth The Effort My shock towers were obviously sagging in after 50 years and this premium brace was not easy to get on. It did not just fall in to place after doing some adjusting at the cowl. I had to use a frequent technique that you see on the interwebs and use the "4x4 with a bottle jack" technique. I had to jack the car up and put it on stands for a couple of days to let the front wheels hang. This still didn't work, so I got the 4x4 and the bottle jack. I cut the 4x4 in to two pieces and then had the bottle jack in between the two pieces of wood and then started cranking on it until I could get the holes in the brace to line up with the shock tower bolts. Long story short, it took awhile and I was very careful once I got the holes to line up on the towers. I also did this by myself, so it can be done, but I don't recommend it. Hopefully yours falls right in to place without a lot of elbow grease. I'm giving it 5 stars because it does look amazing, I have a premium (high quality) export brace now that I have wanted for many years, and I am glad to finally get the front suspension tightened up! Monte Carlo bar is next!

Hi, Can you please tell me what company makes this premium brace and is the one made by Scott Drake the same or better? Thank you, Robert Montano

Asked by: Robs65
These are going to be similar or even better in terms of quality than the Scott Drake product.

By Bill Tumas: Today we're going to take a look at a popular product to stiffen up the front suspension and front chassis of your '64 - '70 Mustang, an export brace. The export brace is going to mount to the top of your shock towers and then connect to the car on the top of the firewall where pinch weld connects your cowl. Stiffen up the front suspension by taking some weight off the shock towers and strengthening the whole front uni-body.

This is the standard reproduction of the '64 - '70 brace we've carried for years. It mounts to the pinch weld below your cowl using four factory bolts here with three outside bolts from out underneath the shock tower caps. There's an additional stamping in here to create a little bit of strength to add strength to the brace. This is our new premium quality brace for your '64 - '70 Mustang. As you can see, the chrome finish is a much higher quality than the standard reproduction. The edging inside the stamping is also much deeper which is also going make it stronger. It also has a much sharper edge inside the cup that mounts underneath the shock tower cap creating additional strength on the tower. You lay them side by side you see how much deep the mounting surface is on the premium export brace. You also take note, the holes are equal distant from the center where on our reproduction piece it's very close to the center and could fail over time.

We've taken the liberty of cutting both of our export braces in half so we can show you the difference on how the metals actually stand. With the standard reproduction, you can see it has ridges but it's nearly flat. On our premium reproduction, the ridges are much more pronounced which will create much more strength in your breaks. We're out here in the shop with a '67 convertible recently restored by CJ Pony Service. We used the premium export brace on this car to see how well it fits back on your pinch weld, also how well it fits underneath the shock tower cap. The chrome brace works well with all the other polished surfaces in the engine to really make it pop. No matter what model of '64 - '70 Mustang you drive, an export brace is a good idea to stiffen up the front chassis. While this brace will do a good job, if you want something that fits better, has a nicer finish to it and is going to be stronger overall, I suggest checking out our premium export brace.
