Mustang Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition 6 Cylinder (1965-1967) Installation Instructions

1. Begin the installation of the Mustang Pertronix 1266 Ignitor Electronic Ignition for 6 cylinder engines by disconnecting the battery cables.
2. Open up the Mustang distributor cap by releasing the two clips holding it on and lift off the rotor.

3. Disconnect the negative ground wire and remove the Mustang points and condenser by removing the three screws holding them in place. Disconnect the existing negative/positive wires and ignition switch wire from engine harness from the coil.

4. Pull through the red and black wire of the Mustang electronic ignition through the opening in the side of the distributor and seat the rubber grommet in place. You can pull the two wires through to take up or allow more slack in the distributor area.

5. The Ignitor is held in place by using the screw hole from the points adjustment screw hole.(The Ignitor includes new hardware if needed) Place the existing negative ground wire from your distributor under the screw. Don't fully tighten the screw yet.

6. Place the magnet sleeve, which is the round donut shaped part on the distributor shaft. It will fit snugly in place.
7. Use the supplied clear plastic feeler gauge, which is .03-inches thick, to adjust the gap between the Pertronix module and the magnet sleeve and set the gap and tighten the module in place.

8. Place your Mustang distributor rotor on top of the magnet sleeve and replace the distributor cap.
9. Attach the black wire from the Mustang electronic ignition to the negative side of your ignition coil. I replaced my original coil with the Ignitor coil for added performance at the same time. It may be necessary to cut the wire, as I needed to cut almost 12-inches of slack wire, and place/crimp the wire connectors included at the end of the wire. You can also add to the wire using a 20 gauge wire if needed)

10. Attach the red positive wire from the Ignitor to the positive side of the Mustang ignition coil. Place the engine wire harness for the ignition switch with the positive side of the engine coil also.

11. Reconnect your Mustang battery cables and make sure all wires are securely fastened.
12. Start your engine and check your timing using a traditional timing light adjustment, then you're finished with the installation of your new Mustang Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition for 6 cylinder engines.
