Mustang Scott Drake Defroster Hose Duct (1965-1966) Installation Instructions

1. Begin the installation of your new Mustang Scott Drake C5ZZ-18490-A Defroster Hose Duct by removing the vent cowling covering the defroster ducts in the top center of the dash. There are two Phillips screws that hold the vent down. If your windshield is in place, you will need to use a 3-4-inch Phillips screw driver to unscrew. When the screws are removed, carefully lift out the vent cover. Use either a flat head screw driver slid into the cowling to carefully pry it up, or a set of needle nose pliers to lift it up. It works best to lift a little and alternate ends so you don't bend the vent cover.

2. Using needle nose pliers, pinch the retaining clips together that hold the duct cover down and lift out. The original duct is a pressed fiber/cardboard and will fall apart.

3. Pull up on the defroster hose. You may need to detach the end of the hose from the Mustang heater plenum chamber below the dash, which is connected to the heater box. Then, remove the defroster hose, if you intend to replace them at the same time. The defroster hoses fit snug around the defroster duct.
