Today, we're going to show you how to install the Ram Air Kit using our 2002 Mustang GT. This kit will fit 1996 to 2004 Mustang GT. It includes a heat shield for the air filter, reusable filter assembly, plastic textured inlet tube, detailed instructions, mass air adaptor, and all necessary couplers and clamps for installation.
The kit includes this grommet for the 1996 through mid 2001 Mustangs and a factory intake air temperature sensory mounted in the factory intake. If you do have that year model, you will drill a hole in the bottom of the plastic tube, install that grommet and that is where you install your factor IAT sensor. For this installation, you need 1/4" ratchet, 5/16 socket, 10 mm socket, 11 mm socket and a short extension.
Our '02 GT is bone stock making a perfect candidate for Cold Air Kit. The 2005 and newer will require a reflash of your computer when adding a Cold Air Kit, the older ones do not, so you can install it without any other changes necessary.
The first step is to remove the stock intake and air box assembly. It's pretty straight forward. Loosen the clamp up here. Remove these two fittings. Disconnect our meter. Remove this one bolt here and we can pull the whole assembly out together. You want to make sure to hang on to this bolt, you will need it for your Cold Air Kit.
We need to reuse the mass air housing, so I want to separate it from the intake tube here, and remove these four bolts to separate from the air box. Our JLT Ram Air Intake can be mostly assembled on the bench. We are going to start by removing the screen from this stock mass air meter as you do not reuse it. I can install the JLT supplied gasket and the adaptor. The housing is plastic, so make sure you don't over tighten them, just get them snug. I will install the coupler to the meter, and now the meter to the intake tube. I will install the filter to the meter. Last step is the coupler for the throttle body to the inlet tube. And, it's ready to install.
Before we install the Cold Air Kit, you want to remove this plastic fitting from the PCV connection here, install the supplied rubber hose to the other fitting. Now we're ready to install. I want to start by tacking it to the throttle body. Connect the PVC hoses. Now plug the mass air sensor back in. We'll install our heat shield using the bolt from the original air box, and our installation is finished.
There you have it. JLTs Ram Air Intake Kit's approved way to add horse power to your Mustang, and as you see, it's very simple to install. It shouldn't take you more than 1/2 an hour and you'll be back on the road in no time.
