MBRP constructs this Hot Side Intercooler Pipe Kit from high-quality T6061 aluminum for a durable and lightweight design. The aluminum also provides lower charge temperatures. The pipes are then mandrel bent for a smooth, free-flowing design that increases flow by up to 50%. Tool you'll need for this installation: 1/4 inch ratchet, 7mm socket, 8mm socket, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, a trim removal tool and a set of pliers or vice grips.
We're going to begin the installation of the MBRP Hot Side intercooler pipes by removing the factory intercooler pipe off the driver side turbo. We're going to remove these clips on this rubber liner to get to the coupler on the driver side turbo.
Grab a 7mm socket and loosen the clamps securing the silicone coupler to the turbo. Then you can break the coupling loose from the turbo.
Same thing on the passenger side. Remove these clips to gain access to the turbo and then remove the clamp from the coupler. Then wiggle it loose from the turbo.
Next, remove the coupler securing each hot pipe to the intercooler. The completely remove the coupler.
All right, we're going to move up top now and to give us more room, we're going to remove the engine cover and the cold air intake.
It might not be entirely necessary, but we're going to remove these hoses just to give us a little bit more room. And now we can remove the driver side hot side intercooler pipe.
Disconnect this grey hose here as well. To remove the cold side pipe, disconnect this sensor and remove the hose clamp on the throttle body.
You can remove the bypass hose for a little bit more room.
Now you can remove the cold side pipe. With the cold pipe out of the way, we can now remove the driver side hot pipe.
Remove this hose from the passenger side inlet pipe. And there's a hose you have to remove from the passenger side hot side pipe as well. Now you can remove the passenger side hot pipe.
Install the provided hose clamp on the 45 degree coupler, with it pointed up and then when you install it, make sure the hose clamp is facing out so you can tighten it. Then install it on the outlet of the turbo. Just install it for now. You don't have to tighten the hose clamp just yet. You want to leave it loose so you can get everything adjusted and then tighten it down at the end. Install a 2 1/4 inch t- bolt hose clamp on top of the coupling and make sure that you can get to it to tighten it later on.
Install the first section of the driver side intercooler pipe into the coupler. You want to also make sure it seats into the mount. MBRP recommends you rotate this hose pipe on this cooling pipe to get this clamp out of the way of the pipe. It might not be entirely necessary, but we're going to do it anyway and when you do it, it might leak a little bit of coolant so make sure you properly catch it.
Install the 45 degree coupler on the passenger side turbo and then put the t-bolt clamp on there as well.
Before we install the passenger side hot side pipe, we have to put some thread sealant on this barbed fitting which goes into the pipe. Now it's ready to go in the truck. Install the passenger side hot side pipe. Install a hump hose coupler onto the intercooler pipe. Slide it on as far as you can and then get that coupler onto the intercooler.
Tighten up all the clamps on the passenger side hot side pipe. All right, with the passenger side finished, we can finish the driver side hot side pipe.
Install the 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 inch coupler on the second half of the driver side intercooler pipe and install it.
Install the coupler to the driver side intercooler pipe to secure it to the intercooler.
Tighten the rest of the clamps on the driver side intercooler pipe.
We're ready to install the splash guard.
Reconnect the factory vacuum hoses, reinstall the cold side intercooler pipe, the air intake and the engine cover. Reinstall our cold air intake ... And the engine cover.
Our MBRP hot side intercooler pipes are installed. Installation was pretty straightforward but removing the factory pipes can be a bit challenging. They'll definitely help our truck breathe a little bit better. Installations take about two to three hours and before you know it, you'll be heading down the road.
