Mustang Airaid Cold Air Intake (2005-2009) Installation Instructions

Tools Required:
  • 3/32 & 5/32-inch Allen Wrenches

1. To start the installation of your new Mustang Airaid 450-177 Cold Air Intake with SynthaFlow Filter Kit, disconnect the negative battery cable using 5/16-inch socket or wrench.
2. Loosen the clamp on the Mustang throttle body using a 5/16-inch socket or a slotted screw driver.

3. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose by pressing and pulling back slowly.

4. Disconnect the Mustang mass air flow sensor wire harness by pushing the red safety lock out, then depressing connector’s top tab and pull out carefully.

5. Remove the bolt holding the factory air box to the Mustang fender using a 10mm socket.

6. Proceed to remove the factory Mustang cold air intake from the vehicle.

7. Remove the factory rubber grommets from the stock air box and save for the install.

8. Remove the Oetiker clamp with side cutters. Save the PCV breather tube from factory air inlet. Note: If stuck, spray WD-40 in between the rubber and the pipe to loosen.

9. Using a Torx-20 bit, carefully remove the screws and remove the factory mass air flow sensor from the stock air box cover. CAUTION: Place your mass air flow sensor inside the vehicle or in a safe place to avoid damage until re-installation of this vital part. Do not touch any sensors on the front leading edge! If sensors looks dirty or shows any sign of residue, only clean with approved Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner!

10. Install the rubber grommets on the bottom of the new Airaid air dam.

11. Attach the filter adapter to the air dam using a 5/32-inch Allen wrench with the provided three button head screws and washers.

12. Install the air dam using the supplied aluminum spacer and reusing the factory 10mm bolt, then torque to 71 in./lb.

13. Attach the front of the air dam using the provided 1/4 -20 bolt, along with the washer and nylock nut. Use the 7/16-inch Socket and 7/16-inch wrench to tighten.

14. Install the supplied rubber grommet in the intake tube.

15. Reinstall the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) breather tube into the intake tube grommet.

16. Reinstall the Mass Air Flow Sensor with the flow arrow facing towards Mustang throttle body. Attach using the supplied screws tighten with the 3/32-inch Allen wrench. DO NOT REUSE FACTORY T-20 SCREWS!

17. Install the urethane hump hose on the filter adapter with the supplied #72 clamps.

18. Install the reducing coupler on the throttle body intake with the supplied #48 clamp and proceed to attach the #52 clamp loosely over the coupler.

19. Install the Mustang cold air intake tube on the urethane hump hose side first, and then on the throttle body reducer coupler. Adjust for fit and tighten all four clamps with the 5/16 socket or a slotted screw driver.

20. Reattach the PCV hose to the intake pipe.

21. Reattach the mass air flow sensor harness. Install the connector until it locks, then push in the red safety tab.

22. Install the Airaid SynthaFlow cone filter on the filter adapter and tighten the clamp.

23. Install the Mustang weatherstrip on the cold air dam.

24. Remove all tools, objects, and materials from under hood that may have been used for installation. Ensure all clamps are tight and will not come loose.
25. Reconnect the vehicle's negative cable to the Mustang battery. The negative cable must be disconnected for at least 30 minutes to reset the on board computer for the relearning phase of the new air intake.
26. Start the engine and take a test drive to allow your computer to reconfigure and finish the installation of your new Mustang Airaid Cold Air Intake with SynthaFlow Filter Kit.
