Pony Emblem Front Grille Matte Black V6/EcoBoost/GT 2015-2017 is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a blackout... ...As you can see in the photo, this piece was the perfect fit and finish (love the matte black) to really set off my stock grille. As for the reviewer who complained that the emblem should have been contoured to fit the grille, I would say that either he got a lemon or, most probably, he failed to do the proper alcohol prep. That prep would be to apply isopropyl alcohol liberally to the surface area and then drink a beer while it drys. Works every time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pony Emblem G037 It's nice that the color black is all the way through the emblem, but the emblem is flat. Meaning that it does not conform the the grille which is curved. The Head and the Tail of the Pony protrude outside the emblem seat of the grille. Disappointed. The manufacturer should have put a curve to like the original pony.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great look, installation could be better I love the look of this on the car, but it doesn't seem to fit flush in the grille (tail section is slightly raised). It's honestly hard to tell unless you're up close, but I was more worried about it falling off. I've driven though a couple rain storms and it seems to be holding on just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dark Horse The matte black blends perfectly with the grille. The stock chrome pony is what grabs your focus when looking at the grille. The matte black pony makes the entire upper and lower grille the focus of attention. Much more aggressive look for the car. Love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks Great Looks great but the tail of the horse wanted to keep pulling away so I secured it with the pins

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the way that it looks! I purchased and installed one of the Pony emblems in matte black for the front grille for my '17 GT in January of '17. Thus far, I am happy with the quality of the Pony and its installation, however, only time will tell about how durable it will be. At $60, it is a bit pricey for a hunk of plastic but considering the specialized shape, the limited demand, all of the players involved in getting it to the buyer and the endorsement of Ford, I guess that's the price you're going to have to pay. I found two CJPony videos on YouTube for its installation. One apparently dealt with an earlier version of the Pony that re-used the metal retainers from the studs but did not use the double faced tape while the second illustrated installation with the tape. Both were pretty good but after reading the one negative review and being a bit obsessive about the installation, I used some info from both. Here's my take on the installation: Here's my take on the installation: First: Be aware that the way in which the pony is manufactured does not result in a great deal of contact area for the double faced tape on the Pony side. The back side of the Pony is hollowed out. Except at the mane, there is only about a 1/16 inch wide lip around the perimeter of the Pony for the adhesive to grab. (See photo) That's not too bad at the bottom where the legs cross nor at the tail but at other places, it is not a great deal of contact area. Be sure that the tape is adhered to the entire perimeter before opening the package. Second: Cleanliness of the contact area on the grill is very important. The video indicates alcohol as a cleaner. Personally, I use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. Past experience with installing body side molding has taught me that alcohol does not work as well. Third: With reference to the video, I have small arms but still had to remove the hood latch and it was still tight to work. If you remove the latch, be sure to mark its location so you can return it to the same spot. I forgot to do that and because the latch location is adjustable, I had to search for the correct location. Fortunately, the toothed washers left marks. Being obsessive, I decided to install the pony with both the tape and the retainers. I only recovered two of the retainers (I think that was all there was) and wanted to put one at the head and one at the tail. The three studs on the replacement Pony are short and trying to reach their location through the latch opening was a real challenge. I wound up installing one retainer at the head and one in the middle. After finishing, I was disappointed to find the tail sticking out ever so slightly (as experienced by the negative reviewer). It wasn't sticking out much but it was not fully adhered. To try to correct this, I threaded a cable tie through the grille along with a small piece of blocking against the pony's tail to hold the tail against the grill. I then heated up the section of the tail near the pony's body with a hair dryer; that seemed to do the trick. Either the heat softened the tail enough to bend to the grill's contour or the adhesive cured thoroughly. I have since bought some of those retainers and plan to do my best to get one of the retainers on the tail. P.S. Replacing the GT on the rear deck with a Pony was much easier. There is a video for that as well.

I swapped out my stock upper and lower grilles with T-Rex grilles. Will this unit work? Thanks.

Asked by: LoveMy MustangGT
The t-rex grilles do not have provisions for mounting emblems, so to mount an emblem you would have to get creative.

Does this piece have the tabs on the other side like the other replacement front grills? Or does this just use 3m adhesive? I assume I need to buy the metal clips that go with this?

Asked by: tbuck07
It has alignment tabs, but you do not need the metal clips. This will install using the supplied 3M double stick tape.

Pony Emblem Front Grille Matte Black V6/EcoBoost/GT 2015-2017 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: We’re here with a matte black grille horse fitting your 2015-2016 Mustang GT, EcoBoost or V6. This matte black grille horse will be a direct replacement for the factory chrome horse found on all 2015-2016 GTs, V6s, and EcoBoosts. It will be a direct replacement. It's Ford licensed and looks just like the original horse. Unlike the factory horse though, instead of installing with metal tabs and retainers, this one will install with double stick tape, but has tabs to align with the factory location. Here you can see the matte grille horse installed on our factory GT grille. Looks great in the grille, gives it a nice custom look, and really matches the overall finish. If you're looking for more of a brighter look, the grille horse is also available in a gloss black finish.
