Tools you'll need for this installation, a quarter-inch ratchet, 7 millimeter socket, 8 millimeter socket, 10 millimeter socket, an extension, a flathead screwdriver or a trim removal tool, and a set of pliers.
These LEDs are going to mount right here on the headlight and in order to get to the wiring, the entire headlight assembly has to come off the truck. To remove the headlight, this outer trim panel has to come off first. It's secured in by 1 clip up here and 2 screws on the fender. We're going to move on to removing these 2 screws, but you might be wondering what this harness is. This is not a factory piece. We actually had Roush fender flares installed on this truck and we removed those for this installation, but if you would like to see how to install those, we do have a video for those as well.
You're going to grab this panel and pull out, pop it out of the clips, and work your way forward. There's 1 clip and 7 bolts holding this inner panel on. Pinch this clip and pull out, then I've got to pull down on this tab right here. There's 2 bolts up top and then 1 bolt deep down in here securing the headlight. Lift up on this tab right here and then pull out the headlight. Disconnect all your connections, which in our case is a lot.
The first wire we're going to tap into is this blue wire with a green stripe on this brown connector. This is for the turn signals. We actually already tapped into this wire for the turn signal resistors, but we're going to tap into it again. Once you have both wires in there, grab a set of pliers and pinch down. The next wire we're going to be tapping for the running lights is this red wire on the LEDs to this brown wire with a blue stripe. Make sure both wires are in there good and give it a pinch. Finally, the black wire on the LEDs is going to be going to this black wire with the yellow stripe. Now we can test it out.
That's the running lights. Seems to be working just fine, and that's the turn signal. We can go ahead and wrap up this side of the installation and repeat the process on the other side.
Reconnect your connectors and reinstall the headlight. Wrap the wiring for this LED in a good location. It's going to be going just like that. Reinstall the 3 bolts securing the headlight. Wipe down your headlight with alcohol. Make it nice and clean. Get a rough idea of about where it's going to go. Peel off part of the backing on both ends. Line it up again to where you want it. Make sure it's not crooked at all. Now peel back the tape.
Finally, reinstall the 2 remaining screws on this outer trim panel. Now repeat the process on the other side and your installation's finished.
Our PUTCO LED DayLiner Switchbacks are installed. They give your truck a nice custom look. They increase safety a bit. Only takes about an hour to install and before you know it, you'll be heading down the road.
