By Bill Tumas: In today's quick fix, we're going to show you how to replace the hood to cowl seal found in your '64 through '66 Mustang, using this new piece here from Scott Drake. The hood to cowl seal is going to mount to your cowl. The top edge here is going to touch your hood when you close your hood. It's going to keep debris and water out of the back of your engine bay.

The hood to cowl seal is mounted right here on the front of your cowl. It attaches using Phillips head screws and then clips across the middle. You're going to reuse the screws, and the Scott Drake weather strip actually comes with new clips. We're going to start by removing the ends.

You can see our original hood to cowl seal is all dry-rotted. It's actually been painted as well, so it's falling off. We're going to pull off the brackets on the end first. You'll want to separate this little bracket from the weather stripping. Actually the old weather strip is all cleaned off, so you could install this on the new weather strip. Our original weather stripping is breaking free of all the clips. We'll pull the weather strip off first and then we'll go back and remove all the clips.

We can use a small flathead screwdriver to remove the clips. We'll start the install by laying it across the cowl. I'll pop the clips into place first. Now we'll install the ends with the bracket and the screws, and your installation is finished. In only a few minutes time with a flathead screwdriver and a small Phillips head, the hood to cowl seal is a simple to install part that can prevent costly repairs down the road.
