Product Description

TMI Sport R Series Pony Seat Upholstery for 1965-1966 Mustangs.

Replace your faded and worn out upholstery with TMI's new aftermarket Sport R seat upholstery. Whether you are replacing just the front buckets or the full set, TMI's 1965-1966 Sport R seat upholstery sets have combined the original interior look with added modern and aggressive styling for more stability and comfort for you. TMI's upholstery offers excellent quality and amazing value.

Features high-quality UniSuede inserts integrated into a stock pattern with premium vinyl sides that include contrast stitching around the perimeter of the seat. TMI is officially licensed by Ford and includes a brilliant copy of the Pony insert on their seats.

Full sets include upholstery pieces for both front bucket seats and the rear bench seat. Front buckets include driver side and passenger side upholstery. Front buckets require Sport R seat foam, which features side bolsters for added comfort. Re-use factory frames.

*This upholstery requires the use of Sport R seat style seat foam (SF41). This upholstery will NOT fit original style seat foam.
*CJ Pony Parts strongly recommends always buying a full set of Sport R upholstery, not just bucket seats, unless you have deleted your rear seat.

TMI Upholstery Sport R Series Seat Pony 1965-1966 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product This upholstery is great. The quality is very nice and it fit amazing. It gave my mustang a great new look and the detail is excellent. I would recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade or even just make a nice show car. The only thing you need with it is the foam for the front seats and it fits on the original seat frames. Try it yourself and you will be surprised at the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing the difference these make This was my first attempt ever as working on upholstery and these seats turned out great! The installation video for these seats gave me the help I needed to complete this project on my own. I have paired the seats with the Sport R console and hopefully in a couple months will purchase the door panels as well. Don't hesitate with these covers you wont be disappointed!

I bought the set of coupe upholstery  and the foam for the front seats, but I also need foam for the rear because my original is destroyed from rodents. Does tmi make anything to go with the rear upholstery?

Asked by: pmm001
They do. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and see the "You Might Also Like..." parts, which are all rear seat upholstery plus foam.

Hi there. Do you guys sell this already install or can I pay extra to have them install ?

Asked by: Polar bear
We don't sell it already installed, nor are we able to do that for you. There are surely some upholstery shops in your area who would be able to help you, though. Or, if you choose, we have some good installation videos that can guide you through doing it yourself. Check out our YouTube channel.

Can these front buckets sit lower than stock to provide greater headroom(I'm 6 4"). Can they be modified to recline?

Asked by: 65Billy
These simply use your original seat frames, so any reclining functionality that your original seats have would be retained. Similarly, if you wanted to lower the seats, you can look at your current frames and see what that would involve. TMI's product is purely upholstery (and new foam, which is required for proper fitment).

Hi. Page 64, your 2014 Mustang catalogue, re standard sport upholstery. Is the1966 coupe version available with Rosette inserts or is it the same as the 1965 version? TMI said they do not make 66 version in white??? Cheers

Asked by: Jack 66
The seats for 1965-1966 Mustangs are the same, so upholstery will fit both models. That being said, you want to watch the color - some colors are unique to one year or the other, so you could install it, but it might not be a perfect match to the rest of your interior.

By Bill Tumas: We recently upgraded the interior of our Weekend Wrench project car using a set of Pony Door Panels from TMI. The next logical step in the upgrades, is going to be to upgrade our upholstery. Since, we wanted more of a modern look, but still wanted to keep a vintage feel, the Sport R Upholstery from TMI was a no-brainer. The TMI upholstery, combined with the custom-seat foam while installing your stock seat-frame to produce a seat that's truly unique. We've already showed you how to upholster a sport two seat, the Sport R upholsters exactly the same way.

The Sport R has large bolsters in both the seat bottom and the seat back, which would make the seat very comfortable. It's also going to keep you in the seat during high-performance driving. The top and bottom features Uni Suede insert, and double stitched all the way or in the outside to give you a true custom look. As you can see, the back seat is a perfect match for our front seat. It has the same Uni Suede inserts, the same Pony design and the same black with the gray stitching as their front seats. The gray is actually available in red, black, white or blue stitching as well. Let's get these in our car. I'm going to start by installing the seat back. The frame is going to clip-in in these two tabs located right here. Now, I'm going to bolt-in the bottom. Now, I will install the seat bottom. I'm simply going to slide it in place under the backseat and push down to lock it in place.

We'll install our front seats. Just align them up with the holes on the floor and I'll put the bolts on from underneath. I'm going to install our passenger side seat. I'll re-install the seat nuts to the holes on the floor. We'll reinstall the rubber floor plugs. Our TMI Sport R upholstering foam is exactly what we're looking for our Weekend Wrench project car. It keeps the original look with a lot more comfort and a heck of a lot more support at the same time. Keep in mind for the front seat, you're going to use your original seat frame but use the foam and upholstery from TMI to get the unique look. For the rear seat, use the factory frame and the factory foam, and you're going to use new upholstery, make sure you check our other video, we'll give you all the information you need on how to re-upholster your seats.
