Every year since 2008, Ford has created a special edition Mustang to auction off at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) AirVenture Show. Located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, this show is a one-of-a-kind experience for youth who are involved in the EAA’s Young Eagles Program which specializes in providing free and discounted introductory flights to children and young adults who are interested in the field of aviation. With the new S550 Mustang, Ford was sure to impress with this year’s special edition: The Apollo Edition Mustang.
What Makes The Apollo Mustang Flight-Worthy?
Well, the fact that this Mustang raised nearly a quarter million dollars towards the EAA Young Eagles Program should be enough to tell you that this Mustang is special. With a non-production pure white and pure black paint scheme, there are many elements of this Mustang that are shared with many of the actual Apollo shuttles. Accompanying the head-turning paint scheme is a carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, rocker moldings and accent treatments that act as both form and function for this beast of a Mustang.
Apollo Mustang Performance Specs
What you’re probably wondering is what’s underneath the hood! Based off a 2015 Mustang GT, the Apollo Edition is powered by a 5.0L Coyote V8 engine which is good for 435 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque. But that isn’t enough to back up the sinister looks of the Apollo Edition, so Ford slapped on a supercharger to up the power output to a staggering 627 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque! To stop this quick Mustang from taking off into space are six-piston Brembo brakes and custom 21-inch wheels with sticky tires.
To make sure everyone in the neighborhood wakes up when you push the start button is a Ford Performance X-Pipe with side and rear exhaust along with sport-tuned suspension to put that all that power to the pavement.
