Named for its intriguing color scheme, the Saleen Mystic, often referred to as the “Horse of a Different Color”, marked the first time a vehicle used Ford’s genuine Mystic paint color — previous versions were black as a cost-cutting measure. The Mystic paint scheme is actually a combination of 17 different colors.
1995 Saleen Mystic Built as a Show CarThe 1995 Saleen Mystic, which was given away during the “Horse of a Different Color” sweepstakes, was built to be a show car for promoting the upcoming launch of the 1996 Mystic Cobras. This vehicle was a convertible — in fact, it was the only convertible to bear the Mystic paint scheme — and featured a GT convertible platform.
Before it could be delivered to the sweepstakes winner, many racing features were removed to make the vehicle street legal. The vehicle has changed hands several times over the years and has undergone a few modifications, including the addition of a 408 stroker with a power output of 526 RWHP. Complex Rides ranks this truly one-of-a-kind Mustang variant at #23 on its list of “The 100 Best Mustangs of All Time.”
