1979 Mustang Motor Mounts

Motor Mounts

If you consider the engine to be the most important part of your Mustang, what would you say is the second most important? We’d argue that it’s the motor mounts. They support the engine in your 1979 Mustang engine bay and help to absorb the vibrations and resonance given off by the engine. Essentially, they support the engine – and they also keep you and your passengers safe and comfortable. If your 1979 Mustang motor mounts are damaged or broken, we recommend that you replace them before anything else breaks. Without adequate support from motor mounts, your engine will start to shift and vibrate excessively, which can cause damage to other important parts nearby.

When to Replace your 1979 Mustang Motor Mounts

It’s not always obvious when it’s time to replace your 1979 Mustang motor mounts. Often, these problems develop over time, and can sometimes go undetected for months. However, there are a few telltale signs that will let you know it’s time to replace your motor mounts. If you notice any of the following, it’s a good idea to inspect your motor mounts for signs of wear and damage:

• Vibration – Lots of it. If it feels like you and your passengers are getting a total body massage every time you drive your Mustang – and you haven’t installed power massage seats – it can be a sign that your motor mounts are no longer holding the engine securely. If excessive vibration is entering the cabin, it’s a sign that the motor mounts are no longer dissipating engine vibration the way they’re intended to, which is normally through the chassis of the vehicle.
• Thumping and Rattling – and you haven’t installed a subwoofer in your Mustang. Maybe you’ve spent a lot of time and money on horsepower upgrades in your Mustang, but the last thing you want is all of those horses running wild and free in your engine bay. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what a broken motor mount can do. When your engine breaks free from its mounts, it can bounce about and cause serious damage to other important parts in the engine bay.

If your Mustang is vibrating, thumping, and rattling, we recommend that you take a look at your motor mounts. Catching the problem early could mean the difference between a minor, easy-to-fix issue and one that takes you off the road completely.
