Ever since its debut in the Detroit Auto Show back in January 2015, the hype around the 2017 F-150 Raptor hasn’t dwindled one bit. Rightfully so, at it’s beefy 450+ horsepower output rating, this leaner, meaner Raptor was developed by the genius’ at Ford Performance with no compromises. For the first time since its inception in 2010, the Raptor is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, labeled the 3.5L EcoBoost. The EcoBoost label is touted to provide V8-like power with the efficiency of a six-cylinder engine, thanks to the twin turbos using spent exhaust fumes to boost power output.
2017 F-150 Raptor Pricing
Just announced in late July 2016, the 2017 Raptor is competitively priced at $49,520 for the SuperCab version of the off-road pickup. Given all the improvements in technology, power and weight over the outgoing 2014 model, it’s only a $430 bump in base MSRP. Not too bad, Ford!
Granted, the SuperCrew version comes in at a somewhat steep $52,505 which is about $3,400 more than it was back in 2014. However, this isn’t surprising given how much more you’re getting for your money when it comes to this new Raptor straight out of Ford Performance headquarters.
Of course, we’re only talking about base pricing here. There are a slew of different options you could add onto your sand-dune-conqueror including 10-way power heated leather seats, power adjustable pedals, SYNC 3, 4.10 Torsen front limited-slip differential and an option for the luxury package. Just as it was on the outgoing Raptor, a loaded model will sit right around the $60,000 mark.
Research & Development Behind The 2017 Raptor
Ford and Ford Performance put a ton of research behind the new 2017 Raptor before making it a reality. This was a pivotal time for the F-150 due to the introduction of an all-aluminum body which was the first of its kind in this truck segment. Developing a Raptor - which its entire purpose is to thrash off-road trails - proved to be a not-so-easy task. Ford Performance had to engineer a vehicle that would be able to stand against the test of time, abuse and pretty much anything that Mother Nature could throw at it.
On top of that, the Raptor was ditching the bulky 411 horsepower 6.2L V8 for a lighter, more potent and more efficient 3.5L EcoBoost V6 capable of producing north of 450 horsepower. Sure, it doesn’t have that V8 growl that we all know and love, but those power numbers are no slouch. Especially when you factor in the fact that this engine is based off a version of what was placed in the Ford GT, you can rest assured that this Raptor will get the job done… quick.
