Getting into the bed of a truck, especially if it's lifted, can be a bit difficult, so today we're going to make a little easier on our Silverado by installing this AMP Research BedStep 2, fitting your 2014 to 2017 Silverado and Sierra.

This BedStep was made right here in the USA of high strength aluminum to make it easier to access your bed, and it can hold up to 300 lbs. it easily bolts to the frame, and features self-lubricated hinges and stainless steel pivot pins for smooth operation in all weather conditions. It'll make getting in and out of the bed of your truck a little safer and easier, so today we're going to install it on our 2017 Silverado.

Tools you'll need for this installation :

13-millimeter Socket

15-millimeter Socket

A 3/8" Ratchet

Center Punch

1/8" Drill Bit

17/32" Drill Bit

A T-25 Torx Bit

A 9/16" Wrench

A Drill

And Safety Glasses

Before we go over to the truck, the first thing we're going to do is assemble our step right here on the table. Now there's a couple different configurations for setting this up. Our setup is going to be for a driver's side five and a half foot bed step.

We’re going to install the lateral mount onto the linkage. Now once again, we're going to be assembling this to be on the driver's side with a five and a half foot bed. There are different configurations, depending on your setup. Next is going to be the frame mount. This notch on the block is going to be going in the same direction as the lateral mount here, and then this portion will be facing the front. Install the provided bolts.

Okay, we have all the major components assembled, you need to make sure when you assemble all these, you leave these two bolts loose so this bracket has some play, but then you're going to torque these to 16 foot-pounds and this will be nice and tight.

All right, so we're over at the truck now and we have the truck up on the lift. You don't need it to be up in the air at all, we're just doing this for filming purposes. Now the first thing you need to do here is loosen the 8-millimeter bolt. Here's the bolt that we'll be loosening, it's on the furthest, most forward part of the bed on the outside. We're going to loosen it using a 13-millimeter socket. You don't need to remove it the whole way, just loosen it.

Okay, we have the bolt loosened, now we're going to place this template behind the bolt that came with the kit. This will allow us to mark our hole for where we need to drill. We're going to use a center punch and punch right there where the plus sign is. Use a 1/8" drill bit to start a pilot hole. Then drill it out with a 17/32" drill bit. Now you're going to hold the rivet nut tool with a 9/16" wrench and tighten the bolt with a 13-millimeter socket. Thread one of the provided bolts about halfway into the rivet nut, don't fully install it just yet, just put it in about halfway.

Slide the holes of the upper frame mount over the washers on the bolt, and then slide it towards the bed to lock it in place. The bolts can now be tightened, and wobble extensions and universal sockets will really help out with this. And on the outside bolt, all I'm using is a wobble extension and just a socket, nothing else. Once you get this assembly bolted to the frame, you're going to lift up on the frame bracket and mark a hole with the center punch on the frame. You're going to be installing another rivet nut here.

Okay, now we're going to remove this assembly so we can drill the hole. Just loosen the two bolts that we tightened earlier, and this assembly will drop right out. All right, start your pilot hole. Now assemble the rivet nut and tool and install it into the hole that you just drilled. Hold it with a 9/16" wrench, and tighten it with a 13-millimeter socket. Get it nice and tight, then remove the tool. Now that you have the rivet nut installed, reinstall the step assembly. Tighten the bolts on the upper mount once again. Install a bolt into the rivet nut that you just made. You can now fully tighten the rest of the bolts. Now they're incredibly difficult to see, but don't forget to tighten the two 15-millimeter bolts that connect to the lateral bracket right up here.

It's now fully secured to the truck, now you can pull it down and we're ready to install the step. Now when installing this, there are three different positions it can be in. It could be right here, in the middle, or offset in this direction, just pick the one that you want. I think we're going to go with this one. Install the provided T-25 Torx screws. When installing these, you're only going to want to tighten them to 5 foot-pounds of torque. And we are done.

All right, we got our AMP Research BedStep 2 installed and it functions absolutely perfectly, and it holds me no problem at all. Installation wasn't too bad, you know, it's probably going to take about two or three hours, and before you know it you'll be heading off-road.
