Product Description

Battery Tray for all 1965-1966 Mustangs.

When you're replacing the battery in your 1965-1966 Mustang, it's a good time to check the battery tray too. Over the years, the battery tray is exposed to acids and other harsh elements, which can cause it to rust. This Battery Tray is just what you need to replace your old and rusty battery tray!

Features & Benefits:
- Made from Durable Stamped Steel
- Bolt-In Installation
- Direct Fit Replacement

This Battery Tray is made from durable stamped steel. It's a direct fit replacement and is a bolt-in installation. Check your current battery tray for any signs of rust and then order this Battery Tray to replace it. You should also take a look at your Pony's battery apron too. Sometimes if a battery tray is rusty, it can lead to a rusty battery apron.

Please Note: The mounting hardware needed for this Battery Tray is NOT included. For the proper mounting hardware, please see HW3215.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 65 mustang installation Bolt the bottom two on first, then have someone put pressure on the top one while you install the nuts. Super easy install and a sharp looking product

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Read before purchasing I decided to replace it. Bottom bolts near the bumper bracket are a little tricky to remove, but can be done. A quality product, well fitting product, but... I replaced the battery tray and it has the correct battery hold down flange at the bottom. This flange tightens against a battery that has a lip on the bottom of the battery, IF you can find a battery with a lip. A search found no local parts stores carry a battery that has the lip. Apparently, the correct 24F battery no longer has a lip. Many folks on the internet have found the same thing. You can get a reproduction battery for about $300. Other than that, I found no batteries that have a lip that fits. I am replacing it with a tray that fits a 65, 66 but with a hold down like a 67. Many have done this. I wish I would have known a battery with a bottom lip is hard to find before I purchased this style. While it is a correct tray, good luck finding a battery that fits it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice! The only issue is the bolt pattern for mounting did not line up. The bottom flange piece lined up, the top did not. Really, for my application not a big deal. I am in the beginning stages of a frame up restoration.

Product Questions

What hold down or strap will I use with this tray?

Asked by: DTATL
That depends on the battery being used. Here are some links,,, This conversion bar provides you with a more secure way to mount your battery. It can be easily attached to the battery tray and enables you to use the 67-70 bridge style clamp (BTC3K).

Battery Tray 1965-1966 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: We're here with our battery apron repair kit for your '64 through '66 Mustang Coupe, Convertible, or Fastback. Our kit comes with everything needed to replace that often rusted area on your early Mustang. The kit includes the correct style group-24 battery tray, a brand new hold down clamp, and all the hardware for the clamp as well.

The battery apron comes ready to weld on. It's predrilled for all of the additional accessories, as well as including hardware, pre-drilled holes for your fender mounting brackets, your battery terminal rubber shield, starter solenoid, precut hole for your wiring harness, and pre-drilled for the battery tray mounting hardware.

Here you can see our battery apron installed on a 1965 Mustang Coupe. You can see it welds to the side of the shock tower, top of the frame rail down here, and welds into your radio support in the front. The battery tray is going to mount right here in the front corner.

Because of battery acid, many times the battery tray is going to rust out first. It's a good opportunity to remove the battery tray and check your apron before you order replacement parts.
