AOD Automatic Conversion Kit 289/302/351W 1967-1970 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Install for my 1970 Mustang, 351W I purchased this AOD kit and installed the entire unit and attachment by my self. Everything I needed was included, including the engine plate. Everything came in one crate and was ready to go when it arrived. I did have to shorten my driveshaft 1", but I was expecting that. Really like the way it shifts, good strong shift. And the overdrive works well with my current 3.0 rear end. I like the fact it is all in one kit! Thanks, C. J. Pony...

Product Questions

Hi, I've got a 1967 coupe with an original 289 engine with the original transmission (not sure what the balance is). will this kit work or would i need to purchase additional parts to make the swap?

Asked by: dannyboy70619
If it is an original engine it should be a 28 oz balance, so the flywheel included should work, you may need to purchase a 50 inch driveshaft and a starter.

Hi there, I have a 70 mustang 302 that has the AOD transmission installed but there is a shake when the car runs. I think it's a balance problem. I'm not sure if the flex plate was changed or needs to be changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Asked by: Mike 70 coupe
If it vibrates only while driving it could be a driveshaft balance problem, if it vibrates while not moving than it could be a flexplate problem, check the flexplate to convertor nuts. If nothing is loose than you would have to check the year of the engine, it should be located above the starter, and pull the trans to check to see if it is the correct flexplate for the engine.

hello when installing an aod conversion kit what do you use for a neutral safty and back up light switch? also do you have to modify the wiring for that? next do you have to have diffrent transmission cooler lines?

Asked by: Stonebuster
The transmission has a switch installed in the case, you will have to find a switch wiring pigtail to wire to your existing wiring. Here is the link to the transmission lines, http://www.cjponyparts.com/original-steel-aod-transmission-cooling-lines-1967-1970/p/MUT1023O/

With this aod kit do you have to shorten the drive line to make it work or will the stock length work?. Also does the kit come with a speed cable gear?.

Asked by: Stonebuster
If installing in a 65-70 mustang this will require a 50 inch drive shaft, http://www.cjponyparts.com/aod-automatic-conversion-kit-289-302-351w-1967-1970/p/DS7/. This does not include a speedo gear.

Will the bell housing fit on a 289 or will i have to order a seperate one?

Asked by: 68coupe289
The bellhousing is part of the transmission housing, as long as your engine has 6 bolts holding the transmission to the engine this transmission will bolt up.
