For this installation, you'll need a set of pliers, a half inch ratchet, a 13 millimeter socket and a set of cutters, crimpers and strippers.
Installation of this kit is very simple and the first thing you have to do is remove the spare tire. Locate the harness for the third brake light. In our case, it's actually extended because we have this third brake light extension on it but you need to find the harness so you can locate the power wire. The power wire is going to be this white wire with the orange stripe. Then we're going to use our scotch locks to connect the two white wires from the kit to the power wire.
Grab a set of pliers and push down on the tab until you hear a slight click. Push the lock over and do the same thing to the other white wire. This kit comes with a ground wire with a connector already crimped on to it, but this is an aftermarket piece we have right here and its powder coated and this bolt is too big so we can't ground it there. What we're going to do, we're going to cut this connector off and ground it right here and then it should work properly.
Before you completely finish the install, test to make sure that they light up. It looks like they're working good. We can go on with finishing the install. They provide a lot of wire and they also provide zip ties so we're going to clean up the wiring and shove it in here and then we'll put the spare tire on. It's time to install the lights into the wheel. Grab both LED's and put them into two of the holes that will not be used by the studs on the mount. Push them all the way in. I found it might make it easier if you bend the wire out. Bringing it forward like this might make it a little easier to mount. Now it's ready to go on the mount.
The kit comes with three nylon washers to put on the studs to give the wires some space. Install the lug nuts. Connect the wires together and your installation's finished.
Our spare tire LED third brake lights are installed. They're going to improve safety and give our Jeep some nice style. Installation's going to take you about an hour and before you know it, you'll be heading off-road.
