These custom marker light housing from Diode Dynamics will be a direct replacement for the factory housings on all 2015 through 2017 Mustang. They're made right here in the U.S.A. and are available in your choice of a smoked or a clear finish, and have a built-in sequential light to match the taillights built right into them. They also have an option on them with additional harness to make them a daytime running light as well.
These marker lights are plug-n-play in design for North American cars and you want to adjust the switch to the U.S. setting. You put it on the other setting, it will just make them blink faster. For this installation, we need a lift or jack and jack stands, 1/4 inch ratchet, 7 millimeter socket, 6 inch extension, and a small screwdriver or panel removal tool.
To begin the installation, the first thing you want to do is get the car slightly off the ground and remove the front wheel. You do not have to remove the front bumper for this installation. We have to remove the wheel, pull back the wheel well, and reach the mark light and remove it that way.
Start by removing the two clips from down below here. Now we'll open the wheel well to remove these three clips here. Now we can pull back the wheel well and you can see the marker light. The first thing to do is disconnect the plugs or harnesses from the light. Now if you look, the marker light is here. There's actually three screws that hold them into the bracket, but what you have to do is actually remove the bracket that holds the fog light and the marker light together as an assembly, and then swap out the marker light. To remove this panel, this housing that holds both lights, you have to remove 6 screws, there's 2 back here, 2 in the middle and then 2 in the front. Now there are still some clips that hold them in, so we'll start back here and sort of pull, and it will pop its way out.
All right, so with the housing on the table, to remove the marker light we're going to remove these 3 screws right here. Now we'll put our new Diode marker light into place and reinstall the factory hardware. Now you're going to grab the factory side marker and remove the socket here. Also remove the bulb. What you're going to do, right here is where you program it for what sequence you're using, whether you want the U.S., European or off, and so in our case it's going to be U.S. What you're going to do now is take the socket, slide that on like that, and install this basically just to keep it sealed.
We're going to show you both ways, but if you are going with the optional harness to make this a daytime running light, at this point what you're going to do is basically connect these two together here, and then this will plug into the factory plug, and this will go into your factory headlight plug, between the headlight and the harness.
Now we'll put the assembled housing here with our new marker light up into place. Line up the tabs and clip it on. Now you'll want to plug it in and make sure everything works, the easiest way to do it is just to grab your keys, hit the disarm button. You'll see the sequence and it will switch to the light. We've already tested our light, just plug everything else in now and reinstall the screws.
If you're doing the daytime running light option, reach up here then, disconnect your headlight plug and take the plug from Diode, plug that in there, then plug it back into your headlight. We need to take the wire off the harness and plug it in here. Now they'll work as a sequential turn signal and also work as a daytime running light. Now with the light reinstalled, we can reinstall our fender liner. You'll want to repeat the process on the other side, then your installation is finished.
Now we'll show you what these lights do. We're going to start by turning them on as marker lights. They have a nice match to the factory lights, give a nice custom touch with the LEDs. Now we'll show you the turn signal option, and now we'll turn the marker light off, and turn them on as daytime running lights. You can see the daytime running light gets a lot brighter than the marker light would be. Now we'll go back to marker lights one more time as a comparison. Here you can see it with the clear marker light installed. Now we'll show it to you with the smoked. Here's a comparison where we can see the smoked light on the passenger side, and then the clear light on the driver's side. We'll start with the marker lights, and we'll shut those off and show you daytime running.
The Diode Dynamic LED mark lights add a nice custom touch to the front of our 2017 Mustang. I mean this is my opinion of what this car should look like from the factory, especially with the sequential LEDs in there. The turn signals really add a nice custom, rich look to the car. The installation is very straightforward as it's a plug-n-play install. It should take you no more than an hour and you'll be back on the road in no time.
