Fidanza flywheels are constructed from 6061 T6 aluminum which results in a flywheel that is 40%-60% lighter than the stock flywheel. The light aluminum flywheel reduces rotational mass, delivers faster throttle response, frees up additional horsepower, reduces wear and stress on the engine rotating assembly and increases fuel economy. 6061 T6 aluminum has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 42,000 psi and a yield strength of at least 35,000 psi with great heat transfer ability. The body is CNC machined with a tolerance of +/- .001".
A 1050 steel ring gear is pressed onto the outside of the lightweight aluminum flywheel body and redundantly secured with grade 8 button screws for added strength. The ring gear is heat treated and Rockwell hardened for durability. A 1050 steel replaceable friction plate sits on the face of the aluminum flywheel body. The incredibly strong heat treated friction plate is milled to meet Fidanza's high specifications and pickled and oiled to deliver superior longevity and disc engagement. When it's time for a new clutch, simply replace the friction plate with a new one and avoid resurfacing or full replacement costs.
Fidanza's flywheels utilize military grade aerospace fasteners and feature mechanical, self-locking nuts with built-in washers for reliability and strength. All hardware locations are engineered for optimal clamp load and function. Friction plate hardware even aids in pulling excess heat away from the clutch face to increase longevity and performance. Grade 8 button screws, in addition to an interference press fit, ensure the ring gear is solidly connected. Once the pressure plate is installed, stepped dowels become locked in place and cannot come out. Finishing off the installation of hardware is high temperatue/high viscosity 620 Loctite.
*4.6L engines may have 6 or 8 bolts to attach to the crankshaft. Check the engine code before ordering. Romeo built engines have 6 bolts and Windsor built engines have 8 bolts. All Cobra engines and Mach 1 engines paired with a manual transmission have 8 bolts. The 8th character in the VIN is (X) for Windsor engine plant or (W) for Romeo engine plant.
