Novice skill is required for this installation.
Jeremy: Thanks Freddy. This is our Flowmaster axle-back Outlaw system. Two and half inch mandrel bends, goes into a four inch black ceramic coated tip. Everything bolts on. Super simple install. This is really a great kit. It's got an aggressive tone out back, but it's still pretty smooth on the inside. So the wife's not going to be mad at you for not being able to hear going down the road. It's not going to wake up the kid.
It's a really great system. It takes up pretty high, so you can still take it off- roading. Not worry about bashing the whole thing. Probably, my favorite thing, other than the sound of this, is when you look at the Jeep from the back. You know, you get the nice spare tire, everything looks good. The OEM system is a huge barrel down there. This is black, it kind of blends in. It looks good, it's a great upgrade for the Jeep.
Freddy: Awesome. Let's install it.
Tools you will need for this installation: 1/2 inch ratchet, 15 mm socket, 3/8 ratchet, 10 mm socket, and you'll probably need an exhaust hanger removal tool.
We got the Jeep up in the air. We're about to remove the factory system. Jeremy, what's the first thing I should do?
Jeremy: Yeah, thanks Freddy. This is kind of what I was talking about before. This is ugly, want that out of there. I'm sure it weighs a ton as well. It's important to note too, that it's great, we've got a lift for this, makes it pretty convenient. But if you're a do-it-yourselfer at home in your driveway, literally, you can lay underneath this thing and take it off. Especially if you got a lift, makes it, or a lift-kit on the Jeep, makes it so simple.
This is a great kit. It fits the 12 to the 17 JKs, the two- and the four- door.
Jeremy: That works there. We start off, there's a clamp right here.
Freddy: All right.
Jeremy: We remove that. You take it out of the hangers, and we put the new one on. Simple as that.
Freddy: Sounds simple. Remove the nut right here on this clamp with a 15 mm socket. You can remove this rubber hanger from either the muffler bracket or the chassis bracket, but it looks like it's going to be easier to remove it from the chassis bracket, because it's a little bit shorter.
Then remove the driver's side rubber hanger from the muffler bracket. Then twist and pull off the muffler.
Jeremy: Okay, now that Freddy's got the OEM exhaust out of there, we're ready to put our new Outlaw kit on. Especially here in the Midwest, we get a lot of road salt, and everything. You get kind of a scaly exhaust. What you can do with this, before you put our system on, just take a scotch-brite pad, and kind of knock some of that rust off. Just slides on a little bit easier. Gives you a little bit better seal.
Freddy: Okay. First thing I'm going to do with the factory system off, is put a clamp over the over-axle pipe. Install the passenger side hanger on the muffler bracket. Then install the driver side hanger into the bracket, then into the over-axle pipe. Then install the passenger side hanger. Then tighten the clamp. Slide the clamp over the inlet pipe. Then tighten it with a 15 mm socket.
Now you can move onto the tips. Slide the tip over the tailpipe, adjust it to your liking. Then tighten the nut with a 10 mm socket. Then you can move onto the other side. All right. That's good enough. All right, let's hear it.
Our Flowmaster Outlaw axle-back is installed. It sounds great, and it looks even better on the back of this JK Wrangler. Jeremy I'm going to thank you for coming out.
Jeremy: Hey, thank you Freddy. It's been a blast.
Freddy: Yes. Thank you. You can find this exhaust, and other Flowmaster exhausts for your JK Wrangler at CJPonyParts.com.
