Product Description

Flowmaster American Thunder 2-1/4" Stainless Steel Cat-Back Exhaust System with Polished Oval Tips for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Focus ST.

The Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back exhaust system is designed to deliver extra horsepower and volume to the roar of your 2013-2017 Ford Focus ST. This sleek, modern, and high-quality system is perfect for anyone who wants to show that their Ford Focus ST is no joke it’s a high-performance, smooth, and powerful driving machine.

As the name implies, a cat-back exhaust system is back from the catalytic converter, and using different cat-back systems can give you different results for your Focus ST. Specifically, Flowmaster developed this cat-back exhaust to maximize the performance of the Focus’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, even if you haven’t modified the engine itself yet. That makes it a great way to start working on the overall performance of your favorite ride.

This Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back system includes everything you need to install a brand-new exhaust. It even comes with durable and attractive metal tips that have been polished to a mirror sheen, making the whole system look great. Plus, its durable interior and exterior are sure to stand up to regular, everyday use, even if you drive your Focus ST all over the place.

You can install this Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system using basic tools and a garage lift. Conveniently, Flowmaster built this exhaust system to fit OEM parts so you don’t have to worry about buying new brackets or hangers. It also comes with additional brackets so you can be sure your new system is securely in place after it’s installed.

Flowmaster's cat-back system features 2-1/4" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing. A tuned resonator style muffler delivers a moderate to aggressive exhaust sound. All parts are welded together and built to last. Dual polished oval 3-1/4"x3-3/4" tips exit the center of the rear bumper. Flowmaster's cat-back is dyno tuned for maximum performance. Get the most power out of your 2.0L turbocharged engine with Flowmaster's exhaust system. When you get a Flowmaster system, you’ll notice a couple qualities and benefits to your Focus ST right off the bat.

Features and Benefits:
- High-quality, stainless steel, corrosion-resistant tubing.
- Tuned, resonator-style muffler for a better sound.
- Sleek, strong, and rolled tips.
- General performance improvement.

The American Thunder cat-back is perfect for the person looking for moderate to aggressive sound levels with all of the performance benefits that you would expect from Flowmaster. Flowmaster's cat-back bolts in place of your original exhaust. Just like all Flowmaster products, this exhaust system features high quality components and construction for long lasting life. Made in the USA!

Please Note: Ford designed the 2015 Focus ST with four exhaust hangers but only added three on the factory exhaust system. All aftermarket exhaust systems are built to use that fourth exhaust hanger. CJ Pony Parts recommends the purchase of COBB’s Polyurethane Exhaust Hanger Kit (591001).

This Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system is the durable, powerful, and long-lasting upgrade you need to get superior performance out of your Focus ST. While the Focus may not be the first car people think of when they think of “power,” that doesn’t mean you can’t turn yours into a high-powered driving machine that can keep up with the best! Whether you want a smooth ride down the highway or break-neck speeds on the racetrack, this exhaust system is a critical part to take your Focus ST to the next level of performance.

So what are you waiting for? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I'm very happy with this exhaust, sounds amazing. There's some drone what is fine by me,the drone is not to bad,it's nothing like you cant hear the person beside you. I took my wife for a drive after installation was done and we were talking and I even ask her if the drone was to much and she even said no not at all so it passes the test.lol Sounds amazing inside and outside the car so I'm a very happy customer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's okay Pros: It sounds amazing all through the rpm range, from low to hight and even at idle. When down shifting it has nice growl. The tips are a lot better looking then the stock exit set up. Cons: Terrible drone in 6th gear, not all is Flowmaster fault due to ford's lack oh a high way gear in the ST. My biggest regret is i daily my ST and the catback has already started rusting badly, for me driving my car for only 2 years this is pretty unacceptable. The tips are not rusting due to being a better grade stainless steel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FlowMaster Cat-Back Exhaust- 2015 Focus ST I installed the FlowMaster about 6 weeks ago and all I can say is wow! The sound is awesome and the price was very competitive. The pops and crackles sound super good. I've gotten so many compliments on how good the FlowMaster sounds on my ST. You will not be disappointed with this Cat-Back exhaust.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Clamps and tip hardware are junk This was the worst experience I've ever had installing an exhaust system. I have installed more than a few systems on my old GMC truck and 1990 Civic, two of them from Flowmaster. Fitment of pipes and joints were spot on. Quality of pipes and muffler are also very good. However the strap clamps for the pipe joints and the clamp bolts provided for the tips, NOT GOOD. 1. Two of the clamps, one off the first to second transition and the one from the second to third transition would not tighten enough to prevent the pipes from twisting at the joints. This is critical to leveling the system and preventing it from sagging into the cross brace under it's own weight. Broke the bolt studs on both of them trying to get them to stop twisting. Yes, the rest of the system was loose. Ended up with standard clamps to do the job, I just plan on replacing them if they rust out before I get rid of the car. Just hit me, maybe if you remove the stops in between the clamp you can get the tension you need to null the slippage? 2. The 6mm bolts provided for clamping the tips stripped the threads before they were even snug on the pipe. One trip to hardware store. Thought 1/4"-20 stainless would do the trick, nope snapped both of those, again before the tips were even snug. Second trip, this time went all in and got grade 8 1/4"-20 and finally was able to get them snugged down to where they weren't flopping all over the place. On the plus side, the sound is superb! Full throttle gets you the grins and minimal drone at highway cruising speed, you forget you even have it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds great I just had the flowmaster cat back and cobb dp installed and together they sound amazing. Lots of gargle and the whistle from the turbo is considerably louder. Honestly sounds like a turbo diesel and I love it.

Does this kit come with new exhaust hangars or do we need to order them separately?

Asked by: Kgoodson
This kit includes everything necessary for installation. We do usually recommend adding P/N: 591001 because it is a better material then factory, but it is not necessary.

Flowmaster Cat-Back Exhaust System American Thunder 2-1/4" with Polished Oval Tips Stainless Steel Focus ST 2013-2017 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: Obviously, we're Mustang enthusiasts here at CJ's, but we're actually fans of all Ford's high-performance vehicles, including the SVT Raptor, Taurus SHO, and the latest creation, the Focus ST. With its 252 horsepower turbocharged 2 liter, Recaro seats, and high-performance breaks and suspension, this is one hot hatchback. Today, we're going to add some performance and sound to our Focus by installing this Flowmaster exhaust system.

The system is designed by Flowmaster specifically for the Focus ST and as part of their American Thunder series. It's fully stainless steel with all mandrel pipes leading through a high flow muffler, and finishing off with a pair of double walled rolled stainless steel tips. The center exit exhaust is one of the unique features found on the Focus ST. It doesn't sound bad for a stock system. We're sure the Flowmaster's going to give us improvement in sound as well as performance, so let's get started.

For this installation, you'll need a jack and jack stands or a lift and pole jack, Sawzall, 1/4 inch ratchet, 3/8 deep socket, 3/8 ratchet, we suggest a 3/8 impact gun, 5/8 shallow socket, 10 mm socket, 15 mm socket, 11/16 wrench, 15 mm wrench, exhaust gasket tool, and safety glasses.

Once you have the car off the ground, we're going to remove the stock system. In this case, the stock system is welded front to back. The only way to remove it is going to be to cut it right here in the middle so you can separate the front and the back. Now we're going to spray some penetrating lubricant on the bolts in the front, as well as all the hangers to make them easier to take off. We'll start removing the front of the exhaust system by first removing this brace from the floor.

There are studs going from this side through and there's retaining nuts on the other side. Either come in with a socket over the top, in our case, we need a ratchet and wrench, just get them right here from the front. Now we'll separate the factory muffler from the flex pipe. You'll want to remove the gasket here as it is reused with the new system. Now remove the pipe from the hanger. Then, remove the stock muffler. Here you can see the stock muffler verses the Flowmaster muffler we're installing. Obviously there's a fairly large restriction there we're going to be taking out with the Flowmaster system.

Before we move on to the muffler and the tip, and we didn't get the hanger for the tailpipe. It's located right on top here. Now, we're going to remove the muffler and the tip assembly. Start by taking off the hanger on the driver's side. Next we'll take the passenger side one off. Now, lower this down. Push the pipe through the opening. Now, we'll install the new bolts that came with the kit. Install the gasket. Put it up into place. We have our jack to hold it for us. Now, we'll install the washers and the nuts on the other side. At this point, hand tight is fine and move on to the rest of the system.

Next, we'll grab the S-shaped pipe and one of our supplied clamps. Install that in the factory hanger. Now we'll tighten up the clamp, push to the edge where the pipes connect. Just get it snug. We still want to be able to adjust it. Grab the tailpipe. Just want to feed it up over. Fit it to the front and then slide it over so you can get the original hanger hooked up to it. Once again, we're going to tighten the clamp. Just get it snug, not all the way tight. Going to put a clamp on the tailpipe section here. Start by hanging the passenger side first. You're going to connect it to the rest of the tailpipe. Slide it on the driver's side. Get it centered as best you can.

Now, we start tightening to the rest of the system. I'll start by tightening the bolts at the front here. You want to hold it up while you tighten it. You can do this with a ratchet, but an impact makes it a lot easier. You want to check the clearances make sure nothing's touching. Then we can move onto the exhaust tips. Slide them over the edge. Want to get them centered and equal distant in the opening. Then we can tighten them down.

Now, we have everything fitted and tightened down, we can reinstall the front brace. Installation's finished. Now, that we're done the installation, let's fire it up and see how it sounds. Just like we expected, a much more aggressive sound. You can even hear the turbo through the exhaust now. Thanks to Flowmaster our Focus ST now sounds as aggressive as it looks. Removing those two large factory mufflers freed up some horsepower and also shaved some weight at the same time. Installation should take you around two hours. You'll be back on the road in no time.
