California Residents: Proposition 65 Warning
This 2017 F-150 Raptor is an awesome truck, but it's a little bit too quiet for us, so today we're going to be installing this Flowmaster FlowFX Cat-Back Exhaust.
This Flowmaster FX Cat-Back exhaust was made right here in the USA of 3" Mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing, and features a straight-through muffler design and replaces the factory resonator with an X-pipe for improved performance and sound. It's designed to easily replace the factory exhaust on your Raptor with no cutting or welding, and it comes with everything you need to make it an easy installation.
Tools you will need for this installation:
A lift or a Jack and Jack Stands.
And a 15-millimeter Wrench.
To install this Cat-Back exhaust, we have to remove the entire factory exhaust. We're going to start off at the rear, and then work our way towards the front.
The first thing we're going to do is remove this bracket here on the tailpipes. Remove both 10-millimeter nuts from each bracket. The brackets on each tailpipe can then be removed as well. Loosen the 15-millimeter nut on the clamp, and remove the tailpipe, and then do the same thing to the other side.
Next we're going to loosen the two clamps at the front of the muffler so the muffler can be removed. The muffler can now be removed. With the muffler removed, we can remove the resonator assembly by removing the two 13-millimeter bolts on the driver's side, and the two 15-millimeter nuts on the passenger side. Once you get both of these nuts loosened, you can remove the resonator.
Our entire factory exhaust is removed, now we can install our new Flowmaster Cat-Back by installing the resonator first. Install the resonator with the factory coupler clamp on the resonator, and slide it into place. Right there. Install the provided hardware into the flange. Don't tighten these just yet, leave them loose for now. Install the factory coupler clamp on the driver side, then the provided clamp on the passenger side.
The muffler can now be installed, it's a bit tricky, you have to get it into both exhaust hangers, and the X-pipe. Pretty much at the same time. We have the muffler seated nicely in the X-pipe now, we're not going to tighten these clamps just yet, we're going to leave them loose and tighten them after the tailpipes are installed.
Install the two provided clamps on the outlets of the muffler. Then the tailpipes. Transfer the mounting brackets from the factory tailpipes to your new tailpipes and install them the same way that you uninstalled the factory tailpipes. Repeat the same process for the other tailpipe, then you can go back and tighten all your clamps. Tighten the hardware on the flange with a 14-millimeter socket and wrench. Tighten the factory clamp with a 15-millimeter socket. Tighten the clamps on the muffler and the X-pipe.
Finally, install your nice, matte-black tips. And tighten them down with a 10-millimeter socket. And your installation's finished.
All right, let's hear how this Flowmaster Cat-Back sounds.
Okay, we got our Flowmaster Cat-Back exhaust installed on our Raptor. Deleting that front resonator really helped to make it a lot more aggressive and a lot louder. There is a little bit of drone on the highway, but it's not enough to kill your ears. Installation should only take you about two hours, and before you know it you'll be heading off-road.
