Tools Required:
- 9/16-inch Socket
- Ratchet & Extension
- 9/16-inch Line Wrench
- 12mm Line Wrench
- Dowel or Rod
Install Difficulty:
- Easy Project
1. To start the installation of your new Mustang Cardone Select 13-4005 Brake Master Cylinder, remove your negative battery cable. Make sure the parts are not damaged.
2. Clean off the brake line connections with a wire brush.

3. Remove the three Mustang brake lines from the old master cylinder. Use a 12mm line wrench for the bottom line and the line closest to the firewall. Use a 9/16-inch line wrench for the brake line at the front of the master cylinder.

4. Unplug the low fluid sensor from under the plastic reservoir.

5. Remove the nuts holding the master cylinder to the Mustang power brake booster with a 9/16-inch socket.

6. Pull the old Mustang brake master cylinder out of the car. Be careful not to get any brake fluid on the car’s paint.
7. Put the flange of the new master cylinder in a vise to begin bench bleeding it.

8. Pull the rubber plugs from the ports and replace them with the supplied plastic threaded plugs.

9. Attach rubber or plastic tubes from the ports. Fill the plastic reservoir with brake fluid. When fluid starts to drip out of the lines, place them back into the top of the plastic reservoir and submerge them in the fluid.
10. Use a rod or dowel to push on the piston which is inside of the rear of the master cylinder. Push the piston in about 3/4-inch to 1-inch.
11. Release the piston slowly and repeat until the piston is depressed 1/8-inch without any bubbles showing up in the reservoir.
12. Mount master cylinder to the booster with the plugs and tubes attached.

13. Remove one plug at a time and install the brake lines into each port. Tighten them with the 12mm and 9/16-inch line wrenches.

14. Remove the low fluid sensor from the old master cylinder by pushing on the rear of the sensor opposite the plug.

15. Slide the sensor into the new Mustang brake master cylinder. Plug the wiring back in.

16. Follow the Cardone Select brake bleeding procedures. Start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder and bleed the fluid until bubbles are no longer present. Move to each wheel until all wheels are done.
17. Fill your new Mustang Cardone Select Brake Master Cylinder with brake fluid and the installation is finished.
