Tools Required:
- Phillips Head Screw Driver
- Flat Head Screw Driver
- 1/2-inch Wrench
Install Difficulty:
- Easy Project
1. Installation of the Mustang driver's side vent window weatherstrip is significantly easier if the window is already removed from the door.
2. Remove the 1/2-inch nut holding the Mustang pivot tension spring at the bottom of the window. Remove the spring, followed by the metal washer, then plastic washer bushing.

3. Remove the two screws holding the tension spring bracket and remove the bracket. Then remove the plastic washer bushing and and the large square metal washer.

4. Remove the Mustang vent window glass by gently pushing the window down to the bottom of the frame enough to free the upper pivot arm from the frame. The window can then be maneuvered out of the frame.

5. Remove the felt from the window track by first removing the screw at the top corner of the Mustang vent window frame.

6. Carefully pull the felt out of the track. This would be a good time to install new track felt during window reassembly.

7. Using a flat head screw driver, straighten the bent over tabs located in the window track that anchor the weatherstripping to the window frame.

8. Now the weatherstripping can be pulled out from the window frame.
9. To install the new weatherstripping, first place the top corner of the seal in the top corner of the window frame and pull it into the corner with your finger. This will take a bit of effort.

10. Place the bottom corner of the weatherstripping in the bottom corner of the frame.

11. Next place the front corner of the weatherstripping in the front corner of the frame.

12. Press the back edge of the weatherstripping into the frame, making sure the tabs are aligned with the holes in the frame. Bend the tabs flat with a flat head screw driver.

13. Press the angled side of the Mustang fastback weatherstrip into the frame. Use a flat head screw driver to carefully tuck the weatherstripping so it's completely seated in the frame to make a tight seal.

14. Place the bottom pivot stuff of the window back into the frame, pressing the window down against the bottom of the frame and slip the top pivot arm back into the frame.

15. Check around all the edges of the Mustang complete vent window assembly to make sure you can see no light and there is a complete seal. Lack of a complete seal will result in a noisy window or water leakage.
16. Reinstall the large metal square washer on the bottom window pivot. The rounded edge of the washer points to the back edge of the window, followed by the plastic washer bushing, then screw in the bracket. Install the second plastic washer bushing, followed by the metal washer, then the spring, and lastly the nut. Tighten the nut to the desired tension such that the window doesn't swing too freely or with too much resistance.
17. Install the window track felt, using a flat head screw driver to press in the sides as needed and screw the top of the felt to the top corner of the frame.

18. The Mustang driver's side vent window weatherstrip installation is now complete. Now would also be a good time to replace the Mustang window to door seal at the front bottom corner of the window frame, as well as the seal strip that glues to the bottom outside edge of the frame.
