Tools Required:
- Adjustable Wrench
- Auto Trim Removal Tool
Install Difficulty:
- Easy Project
1. To start the installation of your new Mustang Roush 421121 Shift Knob & Boot Kit, remove the factory shift knob by turning counter clockwise. A strap wrench will help without scratching the knob.

2. You need to use the new Mustang shift boot to fit correctly with the Roush shift knob. To install the boot, remove the top portion of the center console by using a plastic pry tool from inside the rear compartment. Carefully lift the cover around the edges but don't pull the cover off yet! There is a connector under the hazard light switch that has a short cable attached.

3. Unplug the switch connector by releasing the latch shown in the picture. Now you can remove the cover.

4. Turn the Mustang console cover over to remove the shift boot. The shift boot is held in place by the chrome clips along the black plastic base of the shift knob. Push the tabs towards the center to release. Some tabs may need to be filed or trimmed with a knife in order to fit through the slot in the base of the shift boot. Install the new shift boot and make sure all of the tabs are securely latched. Make sure the large tab is in the front. Install the console cover by connecting the switch connector first and then snapping the cover back onto the center console.

5. Thread the shift knob lock nut onto the shaft by turning clockwise. Tighten until you have several threads exposed above the lock nut. Make sure you can still get a wrench onto the flat portion of the nut at the base. If you tighten it too much you won't be able to get a wrench on it and if it is not tightened enough you won't have enough threads to hold the Mustang shift knob on securely. It should look similar to the picture.

6. Thread the Roush shift knob onto the shaft until it is up against the lock nut, but don't tighten it yet. Adjust the knob and lock until until the shift pattern is straight. It is best to have it in neutral when aligning the knob. Once it is in place, use the adjustable wrench to tighten the lock nut against the shift knob by turning the lock nut counterclockwise. Stretch the ring at the top of the boot over the lock nut.

7. Make sure the shift knob is secure and your hazard lights are functional and the install of your new Mustang Roush Shift Knob & Boot Kit is complete.
