1. Begin by disconnecting your battery cables. It is beneficial if you wait to disconnect the old wires until you are ready to attach the new Mustang 64-TL-C taillight harness in each location.

2. Attach the harness to the right taillight with the black to black wire of taillight pigtail and the orange wire with blue stripe to orange with blue stripe of pigtail. I installed new Mustang pigtail plugs for the taillights at the same time. The third wire goes to the back up light. It is a black wire with a red stripe.

3. Run the new Mustang taillight wiring up along the rim of the trunk frame. My car has metal tabs that hold the wiring harness in place.
4. The next wire link is to the rear license plate light. It is located just to the right side of the Mustang fuel tank filler pipe and the trunk latch. It is a single black wire.

5. Continue the wiring harness under the trunk rim as the next link will be to the left Mustang taillight. The left taillight has a black wire to black wire of the pig taillight and an orange wire with green stripe to orange with green stripe wire. The third wire is again the black wire with a red stripe that goes to the left back up light.

6. The wiring harness runs up along the left trunk rim until just past the left hinge of the Mustang trunk. At this point, there is a smaller covered wiring harness that goes to the gas tank gauge plug in. You will need to remove the trunk liner as it runs along the edge of the gas tank. My car had two wire clips attached to the gas tank screws to help hold the wiring harness in place.

Feed the gas gauge plug through the right side opening. There is a rubber gasket that sets the wire in place in the opening.

Crawl under the rear of the Mustang and plug the gas gauge plug in. The plug is just next to the fuel line.

7. It is helpful to wrap the bullet plugs of the wiring harness that run to the dash connectors together to protect them, as well as to attach it to part of the original wiring harness to be able to pull it through the left Mustang wheelhouse opening and through the left rear quarter window panel.

I chose to remove the left rear interior panel to help feed the wire through. To do so you will need to remove the rear seat. This is done by lifting up on the rear upper seat to lift it off of the two hinges. The lower seat lifts up from the front and may have two bolts holding the frame in the rear of the seat. You will then remove the left rear quarter window handle by using a 1/16 " Allen wrench. There are five other Phillips screws holding the panel in place.

8. Remove the driver’s side Mustang sill plate, which is held on by Phillips screws. You will pull the wiring harness through the opening at the rear of the driver’s side door and it will run along the lower door frame under the sill plate.

11. Attach the wires to the appropriate color coded wiring; there should be a white to white bullet plug, a black to black bullet plug and yellow to yellow bullet plug and a red striped black wire.

Depending on the wiring connectors in your Mustang, you may need to use the pig tail attachments that came with the wiring harness. I needed to use the pig tail attachment for the orange and blue stripe and the orange and green stripe wires that go to the brake pedal switch.
