Tools you'll need for this installation: 1/4 drill bit, a drill, a trim panel removal tool, 5/16 by 18 tap, a Phillips Screwdriver, and safety glasses. The first thing we need to do is open up the hood. You can either lift it up and support it with a piece of wood or something like that to hold it up, or you can lay it all the way back against the windshield. That's what's we're gonna do. We're going to protect our light bar and our hood by putting a microfiber towel up there, so they don't damage. Okay, we have the hood up and now we can remove the prop. To remove the prop, we have to drill out this rivet right here with a 1/4 inch drill bit. Drill out this rivet with 1/4 inch drill bit.
You can now remove the whole prop. With the factory prop out of the way, grab yourself a 5/16 tap and tap the whole that the rivet was just in. Make sure you lubricate the tap. Get it nice and straight. If you want to, you can remove this factory clip for the new one that comes with the kit. Install your new clip. Grab your new hood prop and install it into the clip. Finally, install the Phillips screw into the hole that you tapped.
Alright, we have it installed. Let's test it out now. It's looking pretty good. Okay, we've got our Kentrol Stainless Steel Hood Prop installed. It looks a lot better than this old, ugly thing. Installation wasn't that bad. Yes, you did have to tap a hole right there, but it wasn't that difficult to do. I'd say it should only take you about 45 minutes to an hour. Before you know it, you'll be heading off-road.
