The factory taillights in your JL feature an LED side marker, however they have an incandescent bulb for the brake light. Today we're gonna be looking at these diode dynamics LED brake lights fitting your new 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler.
These diode dynamics LED bulbs are a direct replacement for your incandescent bulbs that are found in the new JL. They feature a high brightness LED technology with a slim profile, designed to give you the maximum amount of light while taking up the least amount of space. They feature a diffused polycarbonate lens, which is gonna provide an even light output. Let's get them installed on our new 2018 JL Wrangler.
One of the most different things about the JL is the way you remove the tail light. In the JKs you had two screws on the outside here that let you pull it off. For the JL, we have to start on the inside. Let's get going. To gain access to the bolt that holds in the tail light, you have to remove the access panel right here. We're gonna use a flat head screwdriver and simply pry up to pop it out. There's a T30 torques bolt right here, it's actually a plastic screw. Grab a ratchet and T30 bit, and simply unscrew it, and then you can pull it out like so.
To remove the tail light, simply pull it out, and then we're gonna unclip the wiring harness right behind here. Go ahead and push on the black clip right here and then pull the harness out. To gain access to the tail light bulb, you have to remove these three screws on this new housing bracket. Simply use a Philips head screwdriver and remove the screws. And then you can pull this bracket right towards you. In order to remove the bulb, you have to turn this outer housing counter-clockwise, and pull it straight out towards you, and remove the incandescent bulb.
Now, you're ready to install your new bulb. Grab your new diode dynamics LED bulb and place it into the socket, and then reinstall this back into the tail light housing. It'll go into a slot, and then twist it clockwise, and you're ready to put it back onto the Jeep. Go ahead and put this outer bracket on. Simply slides into the clip and there's a couple guidance pins, and you're ready to put your screws back in. Go ahead and reconnect the wiring harness, simply put it back in, hear the click, and then push the red pin down. Reinstall this plastic screw, and then tighten it down with the T30 torques bit. Reinstall the body panel cover. Then you can complete the same steps on the other side and your installation is finished.
If you wanna make your bulbs a little bit brighter and don't mind taking apart this, you can actually pull out this little lens, pull it right out. Then reinstall 'em, you're gonna get all that brightness right into the tail light.
We just finished up the install of the diode dynamics LED tail lights in our JL, and they look really great. It's a much more crisp light than the factory incandescent bulbs.
Overall it took about 15 minutes to get 'em installed, and you only need a T30 torques bit, a ratchet and a flat head screwdriver. Now you can find these LED tail lights, as well as many other great parts for your new JL, right here at CJPonyParts.com.
