This Aluminum Driveshaft from Ford Racing will fit 1996-2004 Mustangs with a 4.6L V8.
The Aluminum Driveshaft by Ford Racing is half the weight than a traditional driveshaft, and has reduced rotational mass, which frees horsepower and gives faster speeds. It utilizes high strength, yet light aluminum and has .114 in. wall thickness, a 6061-RT62 aluminum seamless tube, and include 1330 high-performance U-joints. While it fits most 1996-2004 V8 Mustangs, it does not fit 1999-2004 Cobras.
1. To begin installing your new Mustang Ford Racing M-4602-J Aluminum Driveshaft, raise the rear of your car with a jack and support it using the jack stands. Using a wrench, remove the four 12mm bolts that hold your driveshaft to your pinion flange.
2. Once all four bolts are removed, you are ready to remove your stock Mustang driveshaft. Allow the rear of the driveshaft to hang down as you slide the yoke out of the transmission in the front, then remove the driveshaft completely.
3. Now you are ready to install your new aluminum driveshaft. Slide the front yoke of the driveshaft into the Mustang transmission.
4. Reinstall the four 12mm bolts that were removed earlier, which will secure the driveshaft to the pinion flange. It is always a good idea to use Loctite on these bolts. Remove the jack stands and lower your car, which will complete the installation of your new Mustang Ford Racing Aluminum Driveshaft!
