Install Difficulty:
- Easy Project
1. Since I’m going to be installing a kick down cable and since my car does not currently have a kick down cable, I need to put in a Mustang Scott Drake C6ZZ-9725-B Accelerator Linkage. To start the installation, go inside the car and remove the gas pedal by unscrewing the Phillips head screw behind the pedal.

2. After the gas pedal has been removed, move to the engine compartment and locate where the accelerator rod to the carburetor meets the Mustang accelerator linkage from inside. If your linkage is stock, simply use pliers to remove the cotter pin, then remove the arm and washers.

3. Now unbolt the four 9/16 inch bolts holding the driver’s side Mustang export brace and remove it.

4. Now unbolt the three 3/8 inch bolts holding the accelerator linkage to the firewall. One is hidden beneath the rotating linkage arm. Set these aside for the new linkage. Clean the mating surface and replace the Mustang accelerator rod grommet if necessary now.

5. Take the new linkage out of the box and inspect it. Compare it to the old linkage to make sure everything is the same size.

6. Now it’s time to install the new linkage. Put the arm the Mustang gas pedal attaches to through the firewall first. The third arm makes it difficult to maneuver the linkage onto place, so it may take a couple of tries to get everything lined up right. It helps to have someone inside the car to pull on the arm.

7. Now bolt the linkage to the firewall using the three 3/8 inch bolts from earlier.

8. Reattach the accelerator linkage to the Mustang carburetor.
9. Before you reattach the export brace, go inside the car and press the Mustang accelerator pedal all the way down and release it several times to ensure everything operates smoothly. If everything checks out, check it inside the engine compartment by directly pulling the linkage. If everything still checks out, reattach the export brace and you’re done.
10. On mine, it would not close all the way. After checking everything I found out that the lower arm was hitting the exhaust pipe and had to be bent to clear, which completed my installation of the Mustang Scott Drake Accelerator Linkage.
