Install Difficulty:

1. To begin installing a 1964-1970 Mustang V8 2 inch Dual Exhaust Kit, back the rear of the car up on ramps and let it cool off. Then, spray penetrating oil on all of the clamps. Place jack stands under the front frame rails to raise the car enough that you can work underneath it on a tarp and/or carpet.

2. In this car, the engine was just rebuilt. When it was installed, anti-seize was used on all of the exhaust studs on the Mustang exhaust system so that the nuts were easy to remove. A 5/8 inch wrench or socket was used to remove them.

3. The 1/2 inch nuts that were on the clamps either broke off or came off when twisted with the air impact wrench. Once they are removed, remove the clamps.

4. When looking at the rear joint ahead of the Mustang rear axle, it was both welded and clamped.

5. If that's the case in your old exhaust, just cut the pipe ahead of the weld to free the Mustang Y-pipe and mid-pipe.

6. Then, you will need to cut the welded hanger on the driver side of the muffler. Be careful to stay clear of the Mustang fuel tank. Use the reciprocating saw and cut toward the front, away from the fuel tank.

7. Then, remove the Mustang exhaust clamp on the passenger side hanger and lower the muffler to the ground.

8. You may need to work side to side to rotate the muffler and pipes free for removal. Make sure you clear the axle, fuel tank and springs. Having access to a lift would make this step a little easier.

9. Once the muffler and tail pipe break free, carefully remove them. Be sure to watch the axle, fuel tank and Mustang springs.

10. Clean up and repaint the old Mustang exhaust hangers, if necessary. Your new exhaust kit does include new hangers.

11. Now it's time for the new Mustang exhaust pipes to go in. Start at the front and work to the rear.

12. Put the doughnuts on the H-pipe and put the flanges on the Mustang exhaust manifolds (left and right), loosely.

13. Tie the back of the Mustang H-pipe up with the light gauge wire, roughly in the position where it would go.

14. Then, add the mid-pipes and evenly space them from side to side and along the drive shaft. Clamps should be placed at the joints and just snugged up.

15. Next, the Mustang turbo mufflers were installed with the inlets inboard at the front and outlets centered at the rear. The clamps, again, were just snugged up.

16. The light gauge wire helped hold the mufflers up as tailpipes were put in and clamped up with the hangers.

17. Place the hangers on the frame rail at the OEM hanger location.

18. Clamp the tailpipes to the Mustang mufflers and hangers. Rotate and center the pipes between the springs and fuel tank.

19. Step back and look at the balance and angle of all the pipes on your Mustang exhaust kit. Move and adjust them to provide adequate clearance and symmetry. Then, tighten all the clamps. Don’t forget the manifold nuts.

20. Check again for clearance, then add your tips. The neck down section of the tail pipes needed cut off with the side cutter. Your Mustang exhaust tips will install over the tail pipes and exit aft of the rear valance. You can paint the tips with high heat cast blast paint, if you choose.
21. Fire it up and check for leaks. If things sound loose, tighten the clamps again. Then, enjoy the tunes of your new 1964-1970 Mustang Dual Exhaust Kit.
