Install Difficulty:
- Difficult Project
1. To start installing your new Mustang Upper Cowl Vent Grille, support your Mustang on all four corners with jack stands placed under the rockers)
2. Using a drill and cup brush, work your way around the upper cowl panel so that you are revealing all of the spot welds.
3. Using a center punch, try to center on each of the spot welds and make a small indention.
4. Using a drill and spot weld cutter, center the cutter over each spot weld and drill through the upper cowl panel, being careful not to drill through the Mustang lower cowl panel.
5. Continue to drill each of the more than 100 spot welds in the Mustang cowl area. Remember, there are two rows of spot welds in the lower windshield/top edge of the upper cowl panel.
6. Drill all of the spot welds that hold the Mustang fender apron rear extensions on.
7. Using a small chisel and hammer, slowly work around the edges of the upper cowl panel, making sure that all of the spot welds are loose, then slowly pry the upper cowl panel off (be careful not to distort the upper or lower cowl).
8. Remove the upper cowl panel and set aside.

9. Test fit the new upper cowl vent grille, making sure everything lines up properly.

10. Now, would be a great time to test fit Mustang fenders and hood. It's a lot of extra work, but the piece of mind of knowing that everything lines back up correctly is important. This will also give you the chance to adjust the upper cowl as needed.

11. Once you happy with the fit, use your self tapping screws and place some screws in the upper cowl to insure that it doesn't move when you remove the fenders and Mustang hood.
12. Remove the fenders and hood.
13. Use some more screws to secure the upper cowl to the areas that you couldn't with the fenders and hood in place.
14. Now, you can remove the screws along with the upper cowl so you can drill around the perimeter of the upper cowl for plug welding.
15. Realign upper cowl back on car and align it with the screw holes that you made earlier. Place the screws back in the Mustang cowl area. This will help guarantee proper fitment.
16. Proceed to plug weld the upper cowl vent grille in place, removing the screws as you go. Don't forget to weld the screw holes back up.

17. Rehang the fenders and hood to ensure fitment is good.

18. Congratulations, you have installed a new Mustang Upper Cowl Vent Grille.
