PA Performance High Torque Mini Starter for 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968 Mustangs with a 289 or 302 Engine and a 3-Speed or 4-Speed Transmission, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 Mustangs with a 289, 302 or 351 Engine and an Automatic Transmission and all 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 Mustangs with a Manual Transmission.

If you've increased the compression of your engine or need a replacement alternator, PA Performance's High Torque Mini Starter for 1965-1968 Mustangs with a manual transmission and 1982-1995 Mustangs with a manual or automatic transmission is the perfect choice. The High Torque Mini Starter offers better torque, requires less cranking amps and weighs much less than the factory starter. Never worry about being stranded in a parking lot unable to start your engine.

The PA Performance High Torque Mini Starter works well on higher compression engines up to 12.0:1 compression. Features 1.4kw of cranking power and weighs pounds less than the bulky factory unit. Also provides additional clearance for long tube headers. The starter's very small size increases header clearance and reduces the effects of "hot start". Early factory field wound starters weigh around 18 lbs. The mini starters weigh in at 8-1/2 lbs. which is over 50% less than the factory starter! Even with the small package, the starter packs a bigger punch and requires less cranking amps.

Includes the conversion wire kit for “Upgrade Applications” but it is not used with “Direct Replacement” applications. This unit is smaller than the early starters and the same size but with a stronger output compared to the newer (early 1990s') starters.

All starters are 100% new, tested prior to shipping.

*Also fits 1965-1973 Mustangs that have converted to a T-5 transmission and are using the 1979-1993 late model bell housing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with the PA Performance Starter I installed the PA Performance High Torque Mini Starter about a week ago and so far I am very happy with it. Installation was easy because the starter is much lighter and smaller than the original. I also like the polished metal finish of the housing. If you are going for the original look I would not recommend this unit but my car has been modified under the hood and I think the PA Performance starter goes well with my other modifications. It is much more powerful than the original starter that I removed from the car and it turns the engine over much faster than the original. So far the starter has met or exceeded my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent upgrade Perfect upgrade from the big heavy original starter. Car fires right up now, no more bogged down battery. Was super easy to put in once the clunker was out of the way. 65 Hi-Po with a C4, had to add a couple washers to shim it out a little as it was rubbing the flexplate after starting. All is great now. Very happy with purchase

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New starter I bought this when I did a TREMEC conversion in my ‘70 Mach 1. Not sure if it’s hanging up or the bellhousing needs to be ground down. Won’t know until the weather gets better, and I can work on it. Hangs up only when starting, not the whole time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit, works great! I recently purchased and installed the starter on my 1967 Cougar, 3 spd. Fit was perfect, and the included instructions were easy to follow. Everything needed was included. Hopefully it's a long lasting starter!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This starter has its own solenoid. You have to bypass your fender starter solenoid or your car won't shut off. There are no instructions included telling you how to do this. Good luck. We are still trying to figure this one out.

Will this starter fit on my 1990 stock 302 Mustang GT, if so, will I still use my fender mounted solenoid and are there any extra wires or cables that I need?

Asked by: Coachdave
This will be a direct replacement for your application, you will leave the fender mounted solenoid.

Do you need to jumper the solenoid attached to the starter if you are using an original set up with a fender mounted starter solenoid? If so, between which terminals. Thanks

Asked by: Rtdwyer16
On a early car the power wire from the starter solenoid to the starter will be switched to the battery side of the solenoid, then a wire ,which may me included with the starter, should go from the starter side of the solenoid to the new starter's solenoid.
