These PUTCO black platinum rocker panels stretch the full length of the bottom of your F-150 and will give your truck a nice look while protecting your paint. They install suing 3M tape and today we're going to be installing them on our 2016 F-150 EcoBoost.
These rocker panels install in this area the whole length of the truck so the first thing we're going to do is wipe the whole thing down with alcohol, but if your truck's really dirty you may even need to wash it first.
Now you want to line this panel up and see exactly where it's going to be going before you remove the tape.
You don't have to do this next part, but what I'm going to do, just to make sure I line up everything straight and on the same level, I'm going to take a piece of tape and put it right on top of this panel. That way I can line up my next panel on the other side more easily.
This also helps me know where the panel's going to go once I remove the backing of the tape.
As you can see, this is labeled 2D. All of the panels are labeled. This means it's the second panel on the driver's side. They go in order from 1 to 6 all the way back. We're going to start off with the bigger panels and I'm going to start off with the door, which is 2. You need to make sure you leave the film on so you know which panel goes where. You start at one up front and six is all the way at the back.
We're now going to remove the backing of the tape but not all of it. We're going to peel off just enough to where we can grab some on the underside. Hold it in place.
Now we're going to do the other door. We're going to reapply another nice long piece of tape here just so we know that our line is going to be perfectly straight. We're going to line it up perfectly even with this piece so we can line up the next piece.
Now we can line up the next panel.
Now we're on piece five. As you can see there is a pretty significant gap here, so I'm going to try to put a piece of tape the whole way across. Since we are going to have our fender flares on here, I want to try to get it as close to the edge as possible, not back here or anything like that. About right here and then our fender flare will actually come right over it.
It's a little bit more difficult to line this one up because you don't have anything to butt it up against, but we're going to try to go to the same area on this line as we were up front and it kind of goes right here to this crease on the bumper.
We have one last panel to do up front and then we can do the other side.
Apply our piece of leveling tape.
Now we can peel all of the laser film off, repeat the process on the other side and your installation's finished.
Our PUTCO black platinum rocker panels are installed. They look great, they contrast really nicely with our truck. You really only get one shot to put these on correctly, so you really need to take your time. Installation should take you about two hours and before you know it, you'll be heading down the road.
