I want these skull caps but, I don't want the ones that have 3m stick on tape for outside the mirror. Are these the ones that you take off the factory and put on the truck

Asked by: Rolled
Yes, these have the clips and install just like the factory pieces. Take a look at our installation video where we show you this process.

According to the video these mirror caps are supposed to replace the existing factory mirror caps but in the description they are the cheap stick on caps that go on top of the existing mirror caps. Which one is it, the oem replacement or stick on top?

Asked by: moose2213
This installs as shown in the video, by replacing the factory cap.

PUTCO Skull Cap Exterior Mirror Cover Chrome Pair F-150 2015-2018 Video Transcript
By Bill Tumas: If you've been following our project F-150 EcoBoost, you see we've done a lot to give our truck a customized look, such as LED lighting, aggressive grills, and fender flares. Today, we're going to add a bit of shine to our truck by installing these PUTCO chrome mirror covers.

These PUTCO chrome mirror covers will replace the factory mirror cover on our truck and will match the OEM chrome giving our truck a nice custom look. These install using these four clips rather than adhesive for a more secure install.

There's two ways to go about doing this install, the first of which, which PUTCO recommends, is to remove the glass on the mirror to get to the insides to remove this panel, which doing that you run the risk of actually breaking the glass if you're not careful. The other way is to pull this cover off from the back without disassembling the mirror, but then you also run the slight risk of breaking one of the tabs on this cover, but you're going to be replacing this anyway. I'd rather take the risk of breaking a plastic tab than breaking the glass, so we're going to do it this way, but PUTCO recommends taking off the glass.

Get yourself a plastic pry bar or a trim removal tool and wedge it between the mirror and the cover itself. Then, once you get it separated, just pull straight back, and there you go. Grab the new mirror cover. They are labeled side-specific. This is for the right-hand side. We're on the passenger side, so this is the right one. Line it up. Now, repeat the process on the other side and your installation is finished.

Our PUTCO chrome mirror covers are installed. They add a nice touch to our truck. If you do it the way we did it, installation should take about five minutes, and before you know it, you'll be heading down the road.
