Mustang Week 2017 RecapLast Updated February 5, 2020 | Chris Cervenka
If you weren’t able to make it out to Mustang Week 2017, fret not! CJ Pony Parts is down in Myrtle Beach all week covering some of the best Mustangs in the country! Mustang Week has become one of the hottest Mustang events every year thanks to a week chock full of events to attend! This year, the majority of these official events are taking place at Broadway on the Beach. On top of that, there is an autocross event on Wednesday, drag racing event on Thursday, car show on Friday and cruise-in on Saturday. If you’ve never gotten the chance to make it down, be sure to clear out your schedule for 2018 - it’s a blast!
The CJ team will be attending all of the major events hosted at Mustang Week from the official events to some of the unofficial meets throughout the week. Be sure to keep it posted right here for continuous updates on one of the hottest Mustang events of the year!
Meet & Greet and CJ Photoshoot (Tuesday, 9/5)
The first official event of Mustang Week every year is the Meet & Greet. Surprisingly there were a ton of people already in town on Tuesday! This is where many of the Mustang owners that may be friends virtually over various social media outlets have the opportunity to shake hands and meet in person.
Seriously, there are tons of people from as far north as Canada and as far west as California attending this event right here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! Without a doubt, some of the coolest Mustangs around are right here for fans and enthusiasts to see in person versus a picture on Instagram.
Albeit, we didn’t get many photos of the Meet & Greet - mostly because we were too busy walking around talking to some of the owners and checking out their awesome rides. We’ll be sure to capture more photos of these awesome Mustangs as they’ll be here all week!
Towards the end of the day, the CJ Crew and Amie Williams from Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords headed over to Myrtle Beach State Park for the opportunity to take some cool photos of the cars while they were clean. Check them out below!
Autocross, Fun Runs & Vaughn Gittin Jr. (Wednesday, 9/6)
Starting at 10 AM, clouds were on the horizon for Wednesday’s forecast. However, that didn’t stop many people from coming out and enjoying some autocross and fun runs at Myrtle Beach Speedway! It didn’t hurt that Vaughn Gittin Jr. would be making some laps around 12 noon and giving a few lucky people a ride along in his 2015 Mustang drift car!
The CJ Team did get the opportunity to take a couple fun runs on the Speedway. Bill reported that the SEMA EcoBoost was running great and felt healthy from both an acceleration and handling perspective. Needless to say, those 20x11” Rotiform KPS 3-Piece Sport Wheels wrapped in 305mm wide Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires paired with the Ford Performance Track Suspension gripped really well around those corners!
Around 12 noon, everything stopped and everyone crowded the barriers to watch Vaughn Gittin Jr. hop in his Mustang drift car and take some spirited laps around the speedway. There’s no question that the passengers of Vaughn’s runs were in for a heck of a time!
Mustang6G and Retro Mustang Meets (Wednesday, 9/6)
Wednesday night was chock full of some awesome car meets while dodging some of the rain showers. Two of which included the Mustang6G.com and Retro Mustang Meets held at both Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet.
Mustang6G had to deal with a thunderstorm that went through off the bat, but that didn’t keep the S550 owners away! With dozens of Mustangs showing up for some great food at Ducatis Pizzeria & Trattoria and good company with fellow S550 owners, Mustang6G had a slew of giveaways for attendees. CJ’s was proud to donate a few Anchor Room S550 Light Tint Kits and a one-off Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel for 2015+ Mustangs.
Almost immediately after, the Retro Mustang Meet was well underway down at Murrells Inlet. The CJ Crew arrived and we were blown away at the showcase of Fox Bodies and SN95 Mustangs out front. It’s always great to see some of the cleanest Foxes around right out front at a meet like this. Check out some of the photos below!
North Myrtle Beach Dragway & MustangFanClub Meet (Thursday, 9/7)
The CJ crew started out the day at the dragstrip with the rest of the Mustang Week go-ers. This year, the Mustang Week dragstrip event was held at North Myrtle Beach Dragstrip rather than Darlington like past years. Many enthusiasts were happy to give up the 4 hour round trip in exchange for running an 1/8 mile track over the 1/4 mile at Darlington. Regardless, plenty of people had a blast running against some of their fellow Mustang owners in a good ‘ol fashioned drag race.
Both Bill and myself lined up right off the street for a quick run down the strip. To give you an idea of modifications on the SEMA EcoBoost, it’s essentially a basic bolt-on car with a custom dyno tune from Revolution Automotive. My car, however, is a stock 2015 GT with a Ford Performance Sport Cat-Back - so it really was a driver’s race. Needless to say, with Bill’s years of experience, he jumped me off the light and I just couldn’t reel him in by the end of the 1/8. Regardless, it was a lot of fun and man that EcoBoost is quick!
Towards the end of the day, we were able to make it to the MustangFanClub meet sponsored by our fellow vendors UPR and Roush Performance. There was a great showing of both Mustangs and other Fords as well! We were able to grab some pretty cool shots as the sun went down too. Check them out below!
Mustang Week Car Show & CJ’s Meet (Friday, 9/8)
Friday was a long day for any Mustang Week-goer from the Car Show starting early in the morning to the CJ Pony Parts Meet at Liberty Tap Room on Friday evening. The CJ Crew started out their day at 7 AM on the Myrtle Beach Convention Center grounds getting the CJ booth all set up and ready to go for enthusiasts from all over the country stop and check things out.
Overall, the Mustang Week Car Show went extremely well! Many vendors were spread out between inside and outside the convention center, with hundreds of show cars spread out throughout multiple parking lots and hills upon hills of spectator cars… aka more Mustangs!
At 6 PM, the parking lot opened up to over 120+ Mustangs at Liberty Tap Room in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the CJ Pony Parts Meet at Mustang Week! With support from Supreme Stangs and our wonderful vendors such as Velgen Wheels, JLT Performance, UPR Products, Diode Dynamics, Cervini’s, Flowmaster, Hurst, Barton and more, we are happy to report the event couldn’t have gone better! Thanks to all who came out!
Mustang Week Cruise-In (Saturday, 9/9)
Believe it or not, as the sun came up on Saturday morning, the Mustangs started rolling in to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center yet again for the annual Mustang Week Saturday Cruise-In.
The CJ Crew finally had some downtime to walk around and check out some of the awesome rides and check out some of the awesome booths as part of the trade show. We were able to make it around to check out some of our favorite vendors like TMI Products, MBRP, Roush Performance, Ford Performance and many more! Check out the photos below!
