What is the Unlimited Dragon Jeep Wrangler?Last Updated August 4, 2019 | Sam Padgett
This special edition of Jeep Wrangler sounds more like an arcade game or action move more than anything else. The 2014 Unlimited Dragon Jeep Wrangler is a special edition JK Wrangler that was made in honor of Jeep's continued success in China, the largest auto market in the world. Additionally, with the exception of America, the most Jeep vehicles sold globally are in China. There is plenty for Fiat Chrysler to appreciate their success in China. Regardless of how happy they are of their international success, this vehicle was not sold directly in China, instead being sold in North America. While it was initially unveiled at the 2012 Beijing auto show, it later grew into a standard limited edition production vehicle.
A Jeep From the East
Based off of the Sahara Unlimited Wrangler, this special edition Jeep comes equipped with the tried and true 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine which is mated with a 5-speed automatic transmission. That being said, there aren't any major performance augmentations made to the Unlimited Dragon Wrangler. Functionally, it is a JK Sahara, and so naturally is Trail Rated as well. The one truly unique part of the Unlimited Dragon Wrangler is its flashy Eastern-inspired design.
2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Dragon Exterior
As should be evident from the name, the Unlimited Dragon Wrangler heavily features dragons. Instead of using the winged dragons that we are familiar with in the West, this special edition Wrangler features the wingless Eastern dragon which is a big player in both the Chinese zodiac and folklore. In fact, the year the Unlimited Dragon prototype was originally unveiled, 2012, was the Chinese year of the dragon. That is certainly visible even from a glance at this vehicle, as it is covered head to tail in dragons.
The glossy black exterior is decorated with golden bronze accents, both on the grille, around the headlights, and on the wheels. The first of many coiling Chinese dragons visible on the Unlimited Dragon Wrangler extends from the driver side door onto the hood of the vehicle. If you were to take a peek at the engine, you'd be treated to a glance of a large swirling dragon on the underside of the hood. There's an additional dragon hiding on the spare tire cover on the vehicle's rear. Don't worry, because there are plenty more dragons on the inside as well.
2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Dragon Interior
The interior is decked out in black Nappa leather and the same color scheme is continued into the interior as well. On the dashboard, dragons, on the seat headrests, dragons, on the grab handles, you guessed it, dragons. The pattern on the leather seats is also modeled after dragon scales which is honestly quite an interesting look. Besides that, the interior is just like a standard JK Sahara.
Jeep is no stranger to making their special editions rather visually distinctive. For all intents and purposes, the Unlimited Dragon Wrangler is in the same camp as the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 special edition Wrangler. The Jeep is such a cultural icon, that they don't really have to make any major changes to their vehicles in order to justify a special edition. The fanbase of the Jeep Wrangler is wide enough that there is bound to be an overlap with whatever the special edition is focused on.
This special edition Jeep Wrangler is made with the Chinese market in mind, although it is only officially sold in the United States. To celebrate their international success, Jeep has produced a unique, dragon covered Sahara. All in all, this dragon themed vehicle is truly an upscale Jeep.
