Today on CJ Off-Road, we're going to show you how to put some more light on your JL.

If you're looking to add some more light to your brand new JL Wrangler, then today we're going to be installing a set of these Rough Country lower windshield light brackets with their Black Series LED lights, fitting your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler.

This Rough Country LED kit includes everything that you need to get them installed and give you a nice clean finish. They include their Black Series LED lights, which feature 2,880 lumens that only draw 36 watts. It's going to have a 30 degree spot beam. These lights feature a 36 watt draw with a 30 degree spot beam. It's going to give you a lot of usable light when you're out on the trail.

Included with the kit is nice light covers to keep you legal and to protect your lights when you're out in areas that you don't need them. It has a wiring harness, as well as the brackets to get them bolted up on you JL. With that being said, let's get started.

Tools needed for this installation, 3/8 inch ratchet, T40 torx bit, T50 torx bit, 4mm Allen key, and a 14mm box wrench.

We're going to start this installation at the driver's side front pillar. Since the JL doesn't have windshield bolts, we're going to have to remove a few different bolts to get the brackets mounted. We're going to remove the cowl bolt. This is a T40, as well as the windshield hinge bolt, this is going to be a T50 torx bit. Grab one of the include spacers that comes with the kit, set it back here. Grab the driver's side bracket, as you'll notice, it kind of bows out towards the inside of the Jeep, it's going to set just like that.

We're going to use the included longer hardware to put in this cowl bolt. Just get it started a couple threads. Then use the factory windshield hinge bolt to go into this bracket. We're going to use a T50 torx bit to get this tightened up, and for the new bolt, it's going to be a 4mm Allen key. Use the T50 torx bolt to get the windshield hinge tightened back up. Once you get them both nice and snug, it's now time to install the light.

Grab one of your Rough Country lights and place it onto the bracket. I'm going to install the included bolt up through the bottom with a washer on it. You might notice that this is the backwards way of putting the bolt through. However, with this JL bracket, if you were to put the stud downwards, it would interfere with the paint and scratch it up.

Get the lights mocked up to where you want them. I like mine kind of facing towards the front with a little bit of angle towards the outside. Use a 14mm box wrench underneath. Get it tightened up. The top does have grooves for the nut to slide into. You don't have to worry about holding onto that. Get it nice and tight. As you can see, I haven't tightened up this second here. It uses a 4mm Allen key. Get that tightened up, then we'll be good to go.

After you have this side tightened up, do the same on the other side with the same 4mm ratchet. Once you have both bolts tightened up, repeat the same process for the bracket and the light on the other side, then we'll get to wiring.

In order to get this light wired, you can either use the factory harness, or, in our case, we do have the Mopar auxiliary switches, but you do have to get this cowl panel off. You're going to have to pull these three torx bolts out, as well as that one bolt that you just installed. It's a T40 all the way around and then a 4mm Allen key. Grab towards this front corner and then just slide it right out towards you. Be careful not to hit the bottom on that bracket. Now you're ready to do some wiring.

We're going to wire this right next to the windshield hinge here. When the cowl panel is back on, it will not interfere with it. Run the wire down through this section. I'm just going to kind of let it rest here. Once you pop the hood, there is a little slot right here, and kind of a foam protection area, you can slide it right through. I'm going to get the cowl panel back on and all of this bolted up. Slide it back on the exact same way you pulled it off. Make sure you have no interference in the back, then reinstall all the hardware.

Once you have all the bolts in, tighten it all back up. We have the hood propped up on the windshield. It's not really necessary, it just makes it easier for you guys to see. We're going to pop the wire through and I'm just going to tuck it ... There's a little slot right there, and I'm just going to tuck it under there. Get all the wiring run. We're actually going to plug this into our Mopar auxiliary switch system, get everything wired up.

Rough Country does include a wiring harness with this kit. It has a relay all the Deutsche connectors, and even a switch to get it wired up on the inside of your Jeep. We do have the Mopar auxiliary switch system. That's what we're going to wire it up to. However, you can do it with the included kit.

After you have them wired up, either with the included harness, or with the Mopar auxiliary switch, we're going to see how they look. They look pretty bright, give a nice crisp output onto the wall. It's a spot pattern. Overall, it only took me about an hour to get them installed, and you only need basic hand tools. You can find them here, as well as many other great parts for your brand new JL at CJPonyParts.com.
